From Horror Movie To Horror Comic: Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead (2014)

Welcome back to Rotten Ink and to another “From Horror Movie To Horror Comic” update. For this one we will be talking about Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead and the promo comic that came with the DVD release. For those who don’t know what Dead Snow 2 is all about, it’s a indie dark comedy zombie horror film that features group of humans trying to stop a group of Nazi zombies who are trying to complete their orders from decades back. This film is in cult status and is a well loved modern zombie film and now it’s going to get the Rotten Ink treatment, so grab your winter gear and let’s head out into the bitter cold snow as from what I hear there are zombies out there!

Dead Snow 2 1Dead Snow 2 2Dead Snow 2 3

So before we get to deep into this update, let’s take a few moments to chat about Standartenfuhrer Herzog and his Nazi zombie army. Herzog and his Undead Army have many ways to deal death and first their rotting appearance can strike fear into the hearts of their victims and cause them to die of fright as well as become hysterical and make mistakes on trying to survive. They can also use their bare hands to rip and tear flesh and are shockingly skilled in hand to hand combat. Plus they will bite and use their teeth in order to cause damage, death as well as infect you with their undead disease and cause you to become one of them. The can also use weapons of war to deal death that includes guns, knives and tanks to slaughter their targets and they are very skilled with these weapons and that makes them even more dangerous than your standard zombies. They are also horde killers but are also very dangerous on their own. Herzog himself is very strong and can use his brute strength to take a humans life; he also has the ability to resurrect the newly killed to become new soldiers in his army that all do what they are told to do making him the most dangerous as he has a massive army willing to act on his commands. They also have no fear nor conscience and do not hesitate to kill humans making them killing machines as they also do not tire and can take some damage from those who attempt to fight back. But while Herzog and his Nazi Zombie Army are very deadly that can be dealt with as they can be hacked up, blown up, shot up, burnt up and smashed up and by destroying their heads is the full way to stop them. So while they can be stopped, they still are very dangerous and Herzog can always just bring back or create new members for his growing army.

Dead Snow 2 4

So as you can see Herzog and his Nazi Zombie Army are very dangerous and are different than most other zombies we have covered here as again I have to stress they can use weapons of war. But now that we have talked about these zombies, we should take a look at the film it’s based on Dead Snow 2 and like always I will be taking the film’s write up from our friends at IMDB and after that I will write about the film’s production as well as my thoughts. So if you are ready, let’s chat about this indie fright flick.

Dead Snow 2 5Dead Snow 2 6Dead Snow 2 7

Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead (2014)

“If the worst day of your life consisted of accidentally killing your girlfriend with an axe, chain-sawing your own arm off, and watching in horror as your closest friends were devoured by a zombified Nazi battalion, you’d have to assume that things couldn’t get much worse. In Martin’s case, that was only the beginning.”

Dead Snow was a 2008 film that was a big indie horror hit in both America and its origin nation Norway and with this success the writer and director Tommy Wirkola decided to do a sequel! The sequel would bring back actor Vegar Hoel as Martin Hykkerud and would bring in other actors like Martin Starr, Jocelyn DeBoer and Ingrid Hass and Orjan Gamst would return as Standartenfuhrer Herzog the lead Nazi Zombie. Filming would take place in Iceland and would be filmed in English as well as Norwegian and would be filmed in very snowy weather with most of the zombie cast being made up of MMA fighters as well as stuntmen. The film would be scored by Christian Wide and would get a limited theatrical release in America in late 2014 and would only bring in around $37,473.00 for Well Go USA Entertainment, and by 2015 it would get a DVD release. The film did better at the international box office bringing in over $1 million dollars. The film that year would be released alongside such other horror films as The Babadook, It Follows, Tusk, Dracula Untold, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night and What We Do In The Shadows to name a few. The film would go on to become a cult classic and was meet with pretty good reviews from fans and critics. As of this update, no new film is planned for the series.

As you longtime readers know, I have been a horror film fan since I was a very young kid and grew up watching them, so it is even shocking to me that it took me until 2022 for me to watch both Dead Snow and Dead Snow 2! Both films have always been on my radar but for some reason I just never got around to watching them, but when I finally got the DVD’s of the film from Game Swap Kettering and found that the second film came with a promo comic I knew I needed to watch them and make a From Horror Movie To Horror Comic update about them. And before I watched them, my brother told me that he enjoyed the second film over the first, and after watching them both I tend to agree as while I think some of the gore in the first film is good some of the humor fell flat with me while I liked the story and characters better from the second film. The one odd thing in the second film for me is all the Star Wars quotes from one of the Zombie Hunter characters, as it was used as humor and at times felt out of place. The film’s Nazi and Russian Zombies look very cool and at the end of the film both zombie sides clash and it’s lots of fun to watch as they hack and smash each other back to death. The series main villain is Standartenfuhrer Herzog who is very violent and pretty scary as he deals death and destruction all because he is following long over orders. One other very cool element in this film is that main character Martin Hykkerud loses part of his arm as does Standartenfuhrer Herzog and by mistake both have the others arm attached to them and because of this Martin can touch a dead body and bring them back to life as a follower of his cause. This is a very fun and bloody good zombie dark comedy that you should check out if you have waited way to long to watch like myself. Before we end this, I think they should make a part 3 and make it even more bloody and over the top than the first two in the series, but at this point in time it looks like a third film will not be made.

So now that we have talked about Standartenfuhrer Herzog and his Nazi Zombie army as well as the film they are from Dead Snow 2, it’s time for us to take a look at the promo comic that came free inside the DVD release. I would like to first thank Game Swap Kettering for having this promo comic and DVD in stock and making this update possible. And I would like to also remind you all that I grade these comics on a star scale of 1 to 4 and am looking for how well the comics stay to the source material, its entertainment value and its art and story. So if you are ready, let’s head out into the snow and try our best to avoid the zombie that are on a mission for gold and small down invasion.

Dead Snow Comic 1

Dead Snow # 1  ***
Released in 2015    Cover Price FREE     Well Go USA     # 1 of 1

The year is 1943 and a small cabin in the mountains is under attack by the Nazis and as one man is begging them not to take his families rations as winter is here and they are already starving, Standartenfuhrer Herzog listens to the man’s pleas and then murders him with a fish hook in front of his family. The Nazis move onto the next village and have to dodge deer that are all over the roads, and once at the village the Nazis steal all of the peoples gold and jewelry as well as use a tank to blow up a herd of deer, plus the kill one of the townspeople in front of the others and as the box of riches makes it into the hands of Herzog one of the townspeople rushes over and slits his own wrist and bleeds all over the gold as well as Herzog’s hand and places a curse on him that will forever link him to this treasure and will cause him and his men to become zombies who over time will beg for death! The town people then armed with basic weapons try and attack the Nazis but are all mowed down by machine gun fire. In the end Herzog notices that one of the blown up deer is now a zombie and he also sees that mountain area that will become their base as this origin tale ends.

This is a pretty cool little promo comic as its story follows Herzog and his men as they torment, rob and kill villagers all for the quest of gold and power, and they make the mistake of messing with the wrong villager who before he dies is able to place a curse on them all that will forever make them zombies and linked to the gold they have stolen from his people. Herzog is very evil and uncaring as he seems to be uncaring by killing both animals and humans, and even takes pleasure in killing a man in front of his family as he robs them of all their food leaving them to starve to death in the harsh winter months. And even when the cursed is placed on him and his men and he sees that the deer he killed are coming back to life he is unbothered…this dude is a coldblooded killer! His men are also very cold as they steal and take human life on orders and are un-phased by anything they are asked to do. The poor villagers are bullied, scared and most of all pissed off about their treatment but sadly everyone of them who try to fight back end up dead with several of them in this issue being shot and one his hooked, but you have to give them all credit for trying to stand up for themselves and each other. The comic is pretty bloody as we get a close up of a gunshot wound to the head as well as a hook to the jaw making it very gory. The promo comic also does a great job of capturing the horror mood of the film as well as the sinister attitude of Herzog making for a good movie tie in comic. The cover is pretty cool and showcases the head wound panel and could be very eye catching for horror comic readers. The interior art is done by Kurt Van Der Basch and is great stuff and has a very cool indie horror comic look to it. This is a very cool promo comic that does a good job of extended the film universe and adds some detail to some of the film characters past. If you like Dead Snow 2 or even just Dead Snow, make sure to track down this comic and give it a read. Also make sure to checkout the artwork below to see the style of Kurt Van Der Basch.

Dead Snow 2 is a good film and also a good comic and this is a prime example of what I have been talking about for as long as this blog has been active and even before that as comic books make great promo items for your horror films as almost every Fright Flick has an interesting world that fit for comics and with the right creative minds behind it the comics can expand that world and also get readers turned into viewers. I am also glad I finally got around to watching the Dead Snow films as while they are not amazing films, they are highly entertaining ones that deliver a great watch for fans who like a little laughs with their terror. We will be leaving the world of Dead Snow behind as for our next update we will be heading to the world of cartoons as we will look at Roman Holidays! So until next time, read a horror comic or three, watch a horror film or two and as always support your local Horror Host! Make sure next update, you keep your eyes in the sky for not only Santa and his reindeers but also so silly family and their pet lion.

The Slimy TMNT Knock-Off’s Known as The Snailiens

Welcome back to Rotten Ink. I think that it’s time that we once more take a look at a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles knock off. I mean nothing says holiday season like quick knock off versions of something that was super popular at the time like TMNT was in the late 80’s and early 90’s! And what I will be covering today had action figures and of course a comic book…but never made it to getting a cartoon, and this knock off was called The Snailiens. Yep…fighting humanoid mutant snails! Long time readers know that over the years here on Rotten Ink we have covered many of the clones of the TMNT such as Biker Mice From Mars, Toxic Crusaders, Stone Protectors, Cold Blooded Chameleon Commandos and Geriatric Gangrene Jujitsu Gerbils and had a blast talking about them. So with a glass of eggnog in your hand and sitting in your favorite place to read blog updates, let’s dive into the world of Crawlspace and see what these Snailiens have to offer the world when it comes to being heroes as well as if they can break the mould of just being your normal knock off toy that is lost to time but live on in the hearts of those who got these figures over the years as gifts. I mean if Turtles can be heroes, why can’t Snails?

Snailiens 1

JPI was a very small toy company that was mostly known for making cheap novelty toys and whose main office was based out of New York. In 1992 they made their biggest attempt to make a figure series that would capture the boy market and that was a line called Snailiens. You see by 1992 Playmates was killing it with their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figure series that was of course based on the cartoon that was in turn based on the comic book series, and JPI wanted to captures some of that money So they made Snailiens that featured four snail like humanoid heroes all with a different color scheme to go with their yellow skin who suit up in armor to fight evil tick like monsters. Each figure would come with a sidekick character, suit of armor, trading cards, mini comic, a popper “bounce shell” and ammo for the bounce shell. You see the bounce shell was one of the figure line’s big selling points as it claimed to go up to 30 feet and would allow kids to use it to fire projectiles at other figures…this of course did not go over well with parents. The figures themselves were made of rubber, were not posable at all and stood a little taller than Matchbox’s Wave 1 of Monster In My Pocket figures. JPI pushed really hard for Snailiens to be a hit even making a commercial for them to run during cartoons after school and Saturday mornings. The series would have a total of eight figures released with four Snailiens and four Lunar-Ticks making up the complete series as it sadly would only last one series before disappearing and ending up in discount bins in the toy departments. And as quickly as they came, the Snailiens would fade away to be mostly forgotten. They can be found loose on sites likes Ebay and Etsy for cheap loose but they can go for a bigger price if they are still in package.

Snailiens 2Snailiens 3Snailiens 4

Let’s now take a look at our heroes The Snailiens, the four aliens who try and make their world and beyond safe. These heroes are named after the American presidents that are featured on the coins as their real names are to hard for the worlds to pronounce. They were on a mission for their part of the underground galaxy when they come to The Crawlspace to answer a call for help and are stuck there when their ship is taken by a young human child as it looks like a colorful shell. Washington is the leader of the group (wears red) and he is joined by Lincoln (wears green), Jefferson (wears blue) and Roosevelt (wears purple), and together they try to keep not only the snails of The Crawlspace safe but also the children of Earth. They are joined by the snails of The Crawlspace who live in Snail Francisco who are named Sparks, Charger, Cruise and Jet, and these smaller snails are ready to protect their world from the evils ticks. The Snailiens are truly brave and heroic and will never give up in their fight to do what is right.

Snailiens 5Snailiens 6Snailiens 7Snailiens 8

The villains of the Snailiens universe are called the Lunarticks and are lead by Zug The Supreme, who is very evil in his ways and wants nothing more to take over Crawlspace world as well as wants to be the ruler of Earth in general. He is joined in his quest to rule by his tick henchmen named Blastar, Drool and Armokillo, all of whom follow his orders and have the same wish to destroy and conquer. The Lunarticks are also joined by their fellow evil insects in their battle to take over the worlds with such ones as Itchy, Blister, Wart and Drippy all joining the war to conquer it all. The Lunarticks are all mean looking and are purple in color and are fearsome fighters who hate the world below as well as above.

Snailiens 9Snailiens 10Snailiens 11Snailiens 12

I am a kid of the 1980’s and 1990’s, and I do not remember Snailiens at all! I mean I can remember going up and down the toy aisles at such stores as Hearts, Hills, Gold Circle, Children’s Palace, Kaybee Toys, K-Mart to name a few and do not remember seeing these on the shelf nor do I remember even one of my fellow classmates having them. In fact I really knew very little about them until my friend Chris of Time Warp Toys talked about them on a YouTube video. And once I found out about them and that they had a mini comic book that came with them, I knew I had to track down not only the comic but also all the hero figures in the series. A thanks to Ebay, I was able to track all the figures down as well as the comic! These figures are really cool and while I like the armor they wear, I think the basic figures are cooler without it! Check out the picture below to see my Snailien collection of the basic good guy figures.

Snailiens 13

I have to say I really do like the Snailiens figures as I find them pretty cool looking and while as basic as can be, they still have a charm to them that make them their own thing. Yes, they were a cash in on the fame of the TMNT, but they tried their best to be something a little different. And I would like to first thank my friend Chris who owns the toy store called Time Warp Toys for making me aware of these figures and then would like to thank the seller on Ebay that had this mini comic in stock and making this update possible. I want to also remind you all that I grade these comics on a star scale of 1 to 4 and am looking for how well the comics stay to the source material, their entertainment value and their art and story. So if you are ready, let’s head to the sewers…I mean to the Crawlspace…and see what The Snailiens have in store for us.

Snailiens Comic 1

Snailiens # 1   *1/2
Released in 1992     Cover Price $0.00     JPI      # 1 of 1

In San Francisco live three young siblings Max, Mabel and Monty, and unknown to them, right under their home is a world called Crawlspace. That world’s capitol is called Snail Francisco, and it is under attack as Zug and his group the Lunarticks plan to first take down Snail Francisco and then will infest Earth’s kids with blood sucking ticks! They even get help in their evil quest from a group of bad insects that call themselves The Infects! As they start the attack, the snails call for help as they are being slaughtered and their city is about to fall to the Ticks! But the call for help is picked up by four snail aliens from another planet who come to Earth to save the city, but during their fight with the Lunarticks their ship, the S. Cargo, is taken by Max who thinks it looks cool and this leaves the Snailiens stranded on Earth. They are quickly welcomed by the snails of Snail Francisco who give them the names Washington, Jefferson, Rossevelt and Lincoln, all named after the American leaders that appear on the coins. And these Snailiens swear to help protect the people of Snail Francisco as well as the human kids by fighting the ticks and all their allies.

This is a very cheesy comic that is really a mini comic that showcases one page of artwork with the other page being dialogue making the comic read like a kid’s story book. The comic’s plot is that of a group of Ticks and some other rogue insects that are wanting to take over the small under the Earth world called The Crawlspace with an idea to later take over the above world by attacking the Earth’s children. But a group of alien snails answer the call for help and are now stuck on Earth and dedicate their lives in the battle against the ticks. In this mini comic we learn that there are three kids that live in a house with the older boy Max being the one who takes the ship the S. Cargo, forcing the Snailiens to be trapped here on Earth, as to him their ship looks like a very cool looking shell. We learn that Zug is a tick that leads all the evil ones and who is obsessed with taking over the Crawlspace world as well as Earth in general and his main plan is to attack kids…yeah, he is that kind of evil! And we learn that our four heroes, The Snailiens, are really aliens who are good hearted and want to protect those who are being bullied and want to stop the ticks from taking over. And while we get some information about the Snailiens and their universe, this comic is very basic and sadly does not do a great job of introducing us to any of the members at all as none of them get a chance to showcase their personalities or their fighting styles making one truly have to use their imaginations when playing with the toys as a kid. I was a little disappointed that the comic was more like a story book as I think they could have told a way better story if they would have just made a traditional comic with panels. The cover for this mini comic is pretty cool and shows Washington fighting Zug, and the interior artwork is cool and well done but is done by an uncredited artist. Over all, this was a fast and basic read that is for fans of the toys while I think those who do not know or like the toys will most likely dislike this mini comic and find it very bland. Check out the artwork below to see the style of the unknown artist used for this comic.

Snailiens Comic Art 1Snailiens Comic Art 2Snailiens Comic Art 3

While I really like the figures, I cannot say that I liked the comic that much at all as I really did find it to be a lackluster read that did not do its jobs well of promoting the figures and making those who read the comic want to collect the figures as they did not really allow the readers into the world of Crawlspace, and as I said, did a terrible job of showcasing our heroes The Snailiens. But with all that said I will once more say that while they are very much a knock-off and clone of the TMNT, they did try to make themselves something slightly different and if I had these figures growing up I would have had them as part of the Toy War battles as well as would have just added them into the TMNT adventures I had. Our countdown to Christmas Eve 2025 continues with our next update as we take a look at that zombie film Dead Snow 2! So until next time, read a comic or three, watch a movie or two and as always, support your local horror host! See you next update as we watch the epic battle between red and the dead.

From Horror Movie To Horror Comic: Blackbeard’s Ghost (1968)

Welcome back to Rotten Ink. One thing that I have been thinking about a lot lately is the films that I loved loved as a kid that had Horror elements to them, and while many had very small amount of “Horror” in them, they were a gateway of sorts for many to get into the world of the genre. For instance, such films as “The Ghost And Mr. Chicken (1966)”, “Frankenweeinie (1984)”, “The Blair Thumb (2001)” and “Escape To Witch Mountain (1975)” all brought humorous chills to viewers (with us already talking about Escape To Witch Mountain that you can read here if you missed it). For this update I have chosen the Disney made supernatural family comedy film “Blackbeard’s Ghost” as the topic as it was one I enjoyed as a kid, and I think that it fits the mold of what I am talking about as a gateway film into horror. So if you are ready, let’s head to Blackbeard’s Inn and see what this silly ghost has in store for us, and also Happy Thanksgiving 2025!

Let’s start off by taking a look at Blackbeard’s Ghost and his ways of scaring the hell out of the living! Back in the 18th century Edward Teach aka Blackbeard was a pirate that tormented the waters of the West Indies before he was killed in 1718 during a battle. But in 1968, his spirit is brought back by a newly hired track coach after he accidentally says a spell out loud. The two are now bonded together in mischief and trying to right the wrongs that are going on in the town of Godolphin. Blackbeard’s Ghost is unseen by everyone besides the one who summoned him but his appearance has him in full pirate clothing, a black beard and at times he looks annoyed and mean…and this can scare those people who do set their eyes on him. Blackbeard’s Ghost who cannot be seen by normal people is able to also move items/objects around as well as cause extreme and sometime playful scares to those he has targeted. Not to mention that he carries a very sharp sword that could cut and go through the flesh of those he uses it against. This supernatural ghost is also very annoying and will use his playful ways to cause chaos and accidents as he does not care for the most part about other people’s safety as his enjoyment is more important, and really his messing with such things as guns, motorcycles and cars makes him very dangerous to the living. One other thing that Blackbeard’s Ghost has that frightens people is the legend of his cut throat ways while living as he was a truly bad person. But while Blackbeard’s Ghost is from the supernatural world, he does have some weakness, as his ego is so big that it leaves him into making terrible mistakes and even almost chase off his own “friends”. He is also a cheat and a drinker, as he smells of rum making it very easy to detect when he is around. He can easily get his feelings hurt and this as well causes him to go away and leave people alone. He also starts to build a soft spot for his newly made friends and also wants the curse of being a ghost lifted so this turns the once feared pirate into a friendly ghost who wants to help others to rejoin his crew in the afterlife. And once Blackbeard’s Ghost does a good deed and more ancient magical words are said, he is free from this mortal world and his chaos is over. While Blackbeard’s Ghost is not that deadly nor scary he does do his job of haunting the living.

So while Blackbeard’s Ghost might not be the scariest or deadliest supernatural entity, we have ever covered here… but he just might be the silliest one, so that’s something right? And now that we have chatted about him, I think that it’s time we take a look at the film he is from. And like always, I will be taking the film’s write up from our pals at IMDB and then after that I will write about the film’s production as well as my thoughts on the film. So with that, let’s see what this kids silly comedy, family film with a pinch of “Horror” has in store for us.

Blackbeard’s Ghost (1968)

“An unassuming track coach accidentally invokes the spirit of a notorious pirate long believed dead, and who must now team up to lay the pirate to rest, and save a local hotel from a mobster.”

In the 1960’s Disney was locking itself to be the biggest studio to make family friendly entertainment and they were releasing many films to theaters as young moviegoers seemed to not be able to get enough! And when looking for their next film, they decided to adapt the 1965 novel “Blackbeard’s Ghost” by Ben Stahl into a film as many think that a big part of them choosing to do a Supernatural Ghost Pirate film was all due to the huge success of the Pirates Of The Caribbean attraction that had opened in Disneyland in 1967. The film’s screenplay was done by the team of Don DaGradi and Bill Walsh and Disney would hire Robert Stevenson to direct who had made many other popular films for Disney before hand including Old Yeller, The Absent-Minded Professor, Son Of Flubber, Mary Poppins and That Darn Cat! to name a few, showing that he was truly one director that the studio could turn to in order to have a hit film. When casting the film, they would hire Peter Ustinov to play Blackbeard and other actors in the main cast include Dean Jones, Suzanne Pleshette, Joby Baker, Richard Deacon and in very cool casting The Bride Of Frankenstein herself Elsa Lanchester would play the part of Emily Stowecroft. The film was shot at Walt Disney Studios and was your normal production for them at the time and once done the score would be done by Robert F. Brunner and it would be released in theaters on February 8, 1968 and was meet with mostly positive reviews from critics and moviegoers alike who all enjoyed the performance of Peter Ustinov as well as the supernatural comedy elements of the story. The film would be a success for Disney as it did great at the box office for them doing over $21,540,050.00 and also was being considered one of their best films in from the past years. While this is not considered a horror film, it is truly a gateway film for young viewers to ease their way into that genre as it really is a supernatural, comedy, fantasy film whose main character is the ghost of a deadly pirate…and in 1968 it was released alongside such Horror Films as Dracula Has Risen From The Grave, Night Of The Living Dead, Rosemary’s Baby, Astro-Zombies, The Green Slime, Kong Island, Mark Of The Werewolf and Spider Baby to name a few.

Growing up a kid of the 80’s and 90’s, the animated films of Disney were all the rage among kids and man we had some great ones like Lion King, Aladdin and Hercules to name a small few. But in the village I grew up in, many times during the school year we would be able to have a class that would let us watch a movie and many of the time they would be the classic 50’s and 60’s live action Disney films and that is were I first seen the film Blackbeard’s Ghost and man when the teacher first said the title and I knew nothing about it my mind jumped to a classic style Universal Monster film about a pirate ghost scaring people to death…instead the film was a comedy were the ghost helps a man out…was I disappointed it was not a fright flick yes….but did I end up liking the movie… also yes! Something about the goofy nature of the film and the delightful performance of Peter Ustinov drew me in as he is really good in the role of Blackbeard as he gives the character charm and makes him very likable even if he was a blood thirsty pirate in real life. I also geeked out seeing Elsa Lanchester as what classic monster kid doesn’t geekout when they see her in films as she is truly an icon of Universal Monsters as The Bride Of Frankenstein is truly a legendary monster character. And after seeing the film I would also end up finding the film’s novel adaptation at a local second hand book store and had to buy it, and I can remember reading the book in my room right before bed for a couple of weeks. And I know what you are all thinking ,that Blackbeard’s Ghost is not a horror film, but it really does have many elements and here are just a few of those that make this film spooky as it has a ghost, pirates tales, a witch, a curse and even a eerie atmosphere. And again I truly think that films like Blackbeard’s Ghost act as a good way for youngsters to get into the world of Horror Cinema. I also have to say actress Suzanne Pleshette who plays the main character Professor Jo-Anne Baker is absolutely stunning and many of your Horror fans will know her also from her roles in the spooky films “The Birds (1963)” and “The Power (1968)”. Over all if you have not seen this film but do like your Disney films with a dash of supernatural spookiness make sure to give this a watch as you might just find yourself enjoying it.

So as you can see, Blackbeard’s Ghost is a friendly one, but he does have a little of mean streak that makes him a pain in the butt to those he decides to annoy. And now that we have talked about him as well as the film based around him, I think we should move on and take a look at the comic adaptation that was released by Gold Key Comics back in 1968. I would first like to thank Lone Star Comics for having this comic in stock and making this update possible. I would also like to thank the teacher who showed this film to us students in Waynesville! And I would also like to dedicate this update to my Aunt Theresa who sadly is no longer with us, but who loved these classic old school live action Disney films. I would like to remind you that I grade these comics on a star scale of 1 to 4 and am looking for how well the comic stays to the source material, its entertainment value and its art and story. So if you are ready like I am, let’s have a spooky, fun time with the one an only Blackbeards Ghost.

That night Steve goes to his room that was the one the pirate Blackbeard use to stay in, and while getting ready to wind down for the night he gets a visit from the Ghost of Blackbeard who tells Steve he needs his help to break a curse that placed on him by one of his own ex-wives! But Steve is freaked out and wants nothing to do with the ghost and leaves the motel only for Blackbeard’s Ghost to follow and get him into trouble with the law when he takes control of the cars wheel and then messes with a cop that pulls them over, but unlucky for Steve no one else can see Blackbeard’s Ghost so he is thought to be drunk or crazy. Once out of jail, word spreads of his arrest and Jo Anne tells the Dean she will try and figure out what is going on with their new track couch, and the two even have dinner to chat at one of Silky’s restaurants and gambling places. But while there Blackbeard’s Ghost steals $900 that was raised for the old ladies who owns the inn from Jo Anne’s purse and sneaks and places a bet that the college’s track team will win the big meet, and after dinner she finds the slip and thinks Steve did this and is furious. And then at the track meet Blackbeard’s Ghost starts helping the team win and this makes Steve super mad as he don’t want to cheat to win, but it also will help the ghost do a good deed by helping the team win and get the old ladies enough money to save the inn! And the team does win with Blackbeard’s help but only after he and Steve have a verbal fight and feelings are hurt, but the good cause becomes more important. But when Jo Anne and Steve go to collect the money from Silky, he rejects the beat and gives them the $900 back and tells them to try and win it big on the roulette wheel and they do with the help of Blackbeard’s Ghost! As Jo Anne and Steve now with the money to save the end make their way to the inn where the banker and old ladies are waiting Blackbeard’s Ghost ends up beating up Silky and his men who try to stop the couple. In the end the bank is paid, the inn is safe, Steve and Jo Anne are in love and the curse is lifted from Blackbeard whose spirit heads off to sea with his old crew.

This adaptation is very strange and yet also entertaining as many changes are made from the film with one of the biggest is Blackbeard’s Ghost’s first appearance as in the film he appears after Steve by accident reads the magic words of a witch and in the comic the ghost has always just been hanging around his old room at the hotel looking for someone to help him break the curse that is forcing him to walk the world between the living and the dead. Another change is that Blackbeard is over all a nice ghost who wants to do the right thing and almost every element of the films slight horror is missing in these pages as Blackbeard’s mean side, the curse, witch and atmosphere is cut down to nothing. The plot is still pretty much the same as it has Steve Walker being new to town after taking the job with the local collage and then getting mixed up with Blackbeard’s Ghost, helping the little old ladies who own the hotel to keep it, falling in love with one of his co-workers and lastly stopping the towns no good mobsters from taking the hotel. The main star of the comic is Blackbeard’s Ghost who is looking for a good deed to do so that he can be free of his supernatural shackles, and he is able to set his site on helping the old ladies who run the inn he haunts be able to keep the place safe from the bank as well as the local mobster. And while he is a ghost he spends most of his time helping in this comic and less time annoying and scaring. Track coach Steve Walker is kind of the pawn in this comic as Blackbeard’s Ghost attaches himself to him and uses his personal life and job in order to do his good deed, but mostly he just makes him look like he is crazy as Steve is the only one who can see him and the two argue a lot. But while Steve is being driven crazy by his new ghost friend its clear that he really does want to do the right thing even if that is allowing cheating to go on. Professor Jo Anne Baker is a good person who wants to do what she can to save the old inn from falling into the hands of the local mobster and by trusting and following Steve and unknown to her Blackbeard’s Ghost and this helps her get the money needed and for the inn to be saved. And of course the comic’s main bad guy is Silky Seymour who is just a sleazy scumbag who along with his goons bully people and run all the towns gambling, and he wants the old inn for the land to build a big casino. So when he losses lots of money and Blackbeard’s Ghost punches him in the face is a good time. The comic has some silly humor and if you like the film I am sure you would enjoy this comic as its very similar but does play out a little different as much is cut out and other things and smashed together in order to fit in the comics page count. The cover for this issue is just a still of Blackbeard on his ship and the comics interior art is done by Dan Spiegle and has that classic Gold Key Comic look, so that means the characters only sort of look like the actors who played them in the film. Over all if you like the film Blackbeard’s Ghost make sure to get yourself a copy for a read, but those who are looking for a kid friendly scare this one is not for you as the spooky elements are pretty much removed. Checkout the artwork below to see the style used in this comic.

Well it looks like Blackbeard’s Ghost has found his way back to his crew and they are now out on the seven seas roaming around, and I know many of you are still saying that this film is NOT a Horror Film, and again I will say I agree but I still say that it is a film that is a gateway for younger fans to discover the joys of Supernatural Horror! Plus it was a fun one to write and I hope that you all enjoyed reading it! Plus it was cool to read this comic for the first time plus it gave me a reason to watch the film again after all these years. But don’t worry, our next update will take us to the world of The Snailiens, a mostly forgotten 90’s toyline that will surly bring a smile to your face. So until next tim,e read a comic or three, eat a turkey leg or two and as always visit your loved ones. See you next update for a Snail of a good time!

The Futures Only Hope Captain Power

Welcome back to Rotten Ink. We are even closer to Thanksgiving 2025, and I think we should take a look at a hero that not only appeared on TV but also in comics, video games and of course toys! It’s a hero that is fighting against the robots that are wanting to kill off mankind, and that hero is John Connor…wait I mean Captain Power who is backed up by his Soldiers Of The Future who want to end the evil deeds of Lord Dread and his robotic army. For me this is such a cool update to do as I grew up watching Captain Power as well as had many of the action figures, and to be honest it has been decades since I have read these comics so it will be cool to reread them after all this time. So if you are ready, let’s climb into our power suits and hit the battlefield as I think that its time to kick some robotic butt!

Captain Power 1

Captain Power And The Soldiers Of The Future was a live action sci-fi kids show that blended actors along with computer animation to deliver an action packed show that started airing on September 1, 1987 and would last for one season and a total of 22 episodes. The series was created by Gary Goddard and Tony Christopher and would be released by Landmark Entertainment Group in syndication in both America and Canada. The show was 30 minutes long and was about Earth being taken over by robots led by cyborg Lord Dread and a group of freedom fighters of humans that are going up against them to make the world safe for mankind once again. The show would spawn merchandise as well as an action figure line made by Mattel that would interact with parts of the episode on TV as the ships were kind of a light gun game technology. Actor Tim Dunigan would play Captain Jonathan Power with other actors like Peter MacNeill, Jessica Steen, David Hemblen, Don Francks and Maurice Dean Wint all played big roles. The series would make it to home media with episodes coming to VHS and later the full series was released on DVD. The series was supposed to get a second season but it was cancelled and even in 2016 a reboot to the series was in the works, but it as well ended up not being made. The show was met with mixed reviews as many thought the plot of an apocalyptic world was too dark for kids, the toys were not selling well and the budget for the episodes was too high and that is why it is said that the show came to an end. But over the years the show and the toys have gained a cult following and who knows when or if Captain Power will ever show back up with a new series and figures.

Captain Power 2

In 1987 toy company Mattel made action figures to go along with the TV show of Captain Power. The line would last for two waves and would also have vehicles and playsets with one of the big gimmicks for the toys being that the ships would interact with the show as well as VHS tapes that would act like a light gun game. The figures would be a little taller than 3 ¾” figures and would have five points of articulation. In series 1 the good guy figures were Captain Power, Major Hawk Masterson and Lt. Tank Ellis and the bad guys were Lord Dread, Soaron Sky Sentry and Blastarr Ground Gaurdian. And in series two we got heroes Corporal Pilot Chase, Sergeant Scout Baker and Colonel Stingray Johnson and only one villain being Tritor. Growing up I had many of these figures that I mostly got from the store Odd Lots (Big Lots) for very cheap, and I had Captain Power, Blastarr and Tank while my brother had Lord Dread and Soaron…and now that I am thinking about it, I also think that my mom got us a few of them from garage sales. And while I really liked these figures, they also had some very bad flaws as their arm joints would break very easily and on some figures they would suffer from loose limbs syndrome after only a few plays. But even with their flaws, the Captain Power figures were really cool and I cannot count how many times Captain Power teamed with Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Snake Eyes and Captain Kirk to keep the galaxy safe from the evil doers.

Captain Power 3Captain Power 4Captain Power 5

And while Captain Power was short lived, it did spawn some great merchandise for the fans that truly enjoyed the show and toys. You could get your hands on Captain Power coloring books, comic books, lunch box, stickers, posters and home media, and even today fans are making shirts, art prints and buttons showcasing the hero. I am really shocked that Captain Power did not get the Ben Cooper Halloween costume treatment, and it never got a board game. But one thing I do have to talk about is that Captain Power did get a video game for home computers in 1988 that was made by Box Office Games! The game has you play as Captain Power in his fighter ship as you go after Lord Dread. It’s a very fun and simple game that is pretty much just a generic shooter. But as you can see, if you are a fan of Captain Power there is lots of cool stuff out their for you to collect.

Captain Power 6Captain Power 7Captain Power 8

For fans of Captain Power, the talks of a re-boot have been very quiet for many years now but never say never as everything old becomes new again and it will just take something to spark a little interest in the series again and you know someone in Hollywood will get a reboot off the ground…looking at you Jason Blum. Well we are now at the time of this update when we do the comic review, and I would like to thank Lone Star Comics for having these comics in stock and making this update possible. I then would like to remind you all that I grade these comics on a star scale of 1 to 4 and am looking for how well the comics stay to the source material, its entertainment value and its art and story. So with that, let’s join Captain Power and his fight against the machines.

Captain Power Comic 1

Captain Power # 1   ***
Released in 1988      Cover Price $2.00      Continuity Comics     # 1 of 2

The streets of Chicago are a war zone as robots are roaming the streets with orders to take out the humans, but roaming the streets is Captain Power who is destroying the bots as he is trying to save Karl Malenkov, a man who might have the key in order to save mankind. As Captain Power fights on, he is joined by his fellow freedom fighters Tank, Hawk, Pilot and Scout, and they fight hard against the robots as well as Soaron, a powerful flying robot that has the want to kill all mankind! But the battle burns out fast as it’s clear that Captain Power and his friends have the upper hand and this causes the robots to pull back but during this fight they loose Malenkov who is still on the run. Back at the base of Captain Power his team start scanning looking for Karl Malenkov while Power himself goes to the grave of his father, meanwhile Lord Dread gets the news of Powers grave visit and sends Soaron with some robot soldiers to attack him at the cemetery. While back at Power’s base his men chat about the start of this robot war and how Lord Dread used to be friends with Captain Power’s father; that was until a failed experiment turned him into the commander of the robots and hater of humankind. While Captain Power is speaking to his father’s grave he is unaware that Soaron is on his way to kill him.

This first issue of Captain Power is action packed and does a great job of showing the history of this world by explaining the age of the robots taking over and even a little backstory on why Lord Dread hates Captain Power so much and why our cyborg villain is the way he is. The plot is very simple and very fitting as it has Captain Power and his renegade human soldiers trying to track down a scientist that is on the run who might have a way to turn the war with the robots to the side of the humans, but of course Lord Dread and his killer robots are also on the scientist trail and both sides are ready to battle over getting him. Captain Power has no fear and in this issue rushes into battle and brings down many robots all the while he is also looking out for his friends and is clearly a very capable leader as his soldiers respect him and know that his orders are well thought out. All of his fighters are very skilled with Hawk and Tank being ready for battle and Scout doing his job well and even the rookie Pilot learns fast as she does what she needs to do in order to kick some robot butt. Lord Dread is so filled with hate for mankind as his mind is taken over by the machines and he is hellbent on killing the humans and most important to him Captain Power, and because he is so filled with hate and rage he seems to want to rush into things without thinking them out. The robot Soaron is very dangerous as he can fly and listens to orders and those orders are kill and destroy! I feel that this comic does the TV show and toys it’s based on very much justice and is highly entertaining. The cover for this episode is very well done and showcases Captain Power and his crew in the heat of battle and the interior art is done by Neal Adams and is fantastic stuff as I really like the way he draws Soaron and Lord Dread and he makes Captain Power seem like even bigger of a hero and badass robot smasher. This far this is a really good first issue and has held up for me even after all these years! So let’s see what issue two has in store for us!

Captain Power Comic 2

Captain Power # 2   ***
Released in 1989     Cover Price $2.00     Continuity Comics     # 2 of 2

Hawk and Pilot are waiting around the command room and he shares more stories with her with one being about the time Lord Dread had just created Soaron and let him loose on a battle field were he wiped out a full platoon of men and vaporized them with his weaponry! And when Lord Dread figured out that young Captain Power was working at a truck dock to send out supplies he sent his new killer robot to capture him so that he could torment Stuart Power with the baddies having his son. But before the story can continue in currant time Tank and Scout have gotten word about the location of the missing Karl Malenkov as he has been captured by a gang of punks, but when the robots show up and start attacking Scout finds that the punks have sold off Karl to another and now they are going after his trail to try and get him back. Hawk then continues his story about Soaron who now has gotten to the warehouse and has captured the young Captain Power who had put up a big fight before being kidnapped, and at this time Stuart Power was creating power suits for the soldiers so that they can now stand a better chance against the robots and when he finds out Lord Dread has kidnapped Captain Power, Hawk gears up in one of the new suits after Stuart Power makes the choice to go it alone to get his son back, but the power suit that is untested ends up knocking Hawk out cold. Pilot is really into the story but Hawk stops it’s telling as he wants Captain Power to finish it once he his back from his fathers grave, but at the grave Captain Power is attacked and digitized by Blastarr!

Well this comic ends on a big cliffhanger and sadly the third issue in the series was never released, so the way that this series ends is that Captain Power is dead! Our last image of him is Captain Power being blasted and with a look of pain on his face…what a sad way for this series to end and once more shows that Continuity Comics just never cared about their readers. The plot of this second issue has Captain Power visiting the grave of his father and is attacked, while back at base Hawk is telling the story of the power suits and the heroic nature of Captain Power and his father. Captain Power does not get to do much in this issue as he is mostly seen in flashback younger, but he does fight off many robots and tries to save lives, the slightly older version of Captain Power is just visiting in the graveyard and then gets blasted. While Hawk and Pilot are just talking you have to give Tank and Scout credit as they are out in the dangerous world looking for the missing scientist and are having to deal with robots and human punks. Lord Dread and Soaron are showing to be blood thirty killers in both the past and present, and it was very cool to finally see Blastarr in this issue even if it was very briefly. I like the concept of this comic series taking place both in present time as well as in the past as it gives us a little more background into these characters as well as they world they live in. Also, while I am disappointed in the fact Continuity Comics never finished this series, I do have to give them credit as the comic does the TV show and toys it’s based off justice. Plus Captain Power was a very cool and highly underrated hero of the 80’s when it came to toys and kid shows, as sadly it seems like he gets way less respect than his peers like He-Man, Optimus Prime, Voltron and Duke to name a few. The cover for this issue is very cool and eye catching as is showcases Captain Power fighting Soaron and like before the interior artwork was done by the super talented artist Neal Adams who’s art truly made this short lived comic series feel more epic. I really did enjoy both these issues and its truly a shame that we readers never got more issues as Captain Power and his adventures deserved to continue on and have a proper ending. If you like Captain Power the show or the toys make sure to check this comic series out as I think you will really enjoy it. Also checkout the artwork below to see the style of Adams used in this comic series.

Doing this update makes me want to look through my old toy collection to see if I have any of my old Captain Power figures still, and if not collect a few of them back as this was a very fun flashback update for me and took me back to the days of talking toys on the playground and searching the department stores looking for those must have figures. To wrap up our look at Captain Power, I have to say that he made and still makes a great hero for the world of comic books and I would love to see a publisher like IDW, Dynamite or American Mythology bring him back to the printed world and comic book shelves. Our next update will be the big Thanksgiving one and will take us back to the world of Gateway Horror Films as it will be all about that supernatural Disney film “Blackbeard’s Ghost” and the comic adaptation of it! So until next time, read a comic or three, watch a movie or two and as always support your local Horror Host! See you next update as I am wondering if Blackbeard every ate Turkey with his crew?

Top Horror Games Countdown: Sony Playstation

The Sony Playstation hit North America on September 9, 1995 and changed the world of video games forever as it was the first disc-based system to truly catch on with gamers as the Sega CD and Phillips CDI failed to gain any momentum and PC Gaming at the time was where CD Games ruled supreme. The Playstation would dominate the home console landscape and even Nintendo’s next console, the N64, failed to dethrone it as the Atari Jaguar CD and even the Sega Dreamcast could not compete when they were released. And because of the power of the Playstation, many publishers would flock to make games for the system as well as port over their games and of course this meant lots of very cool horror games were released on the system and this is where the modern version of Survival Horror would start (but some would say Sweet Home for the Famicom (NES) started it all) and it kicked off for the masses with Resident Evil that was released in 1996 and through this system’s generation many very iconic series would start and continue to this day being must play games for Horror Gamers. The Sony Playstation would come to an end in 2006 officially and would pave the way for the Playstation 2 (PS2) that would become one of the top selling Home Consoles of all time. I got my first Sony Playstation pretty early in the system’s life as my brother would get it for me as he was working for a second hand media store called Replay Media in our area and for day one I was hooked. Now don’t get me wrong my cousins already had one and I can remember playing Resident Evil with my cousin Norman with both of us loving the creepy nature of it. And that is the thing about the Sony Playstation, for me as growing up I have great memories of playing it alongside my friends like Jason Gilmore, Matt Hoffman, Josh Weinberg and Dave Wean during late night gatherings of game playing and junk food eating.

Sony Playstation Machine Horror

So I have 42 Horror Games for the Sony Playstation (aka the PS1 and PSX) and that makes them the Unholy 42, as I will rank them from Worst to Best! Now I am not going to give them a star rating or even a letter grade I am just going to let their standing speak for itself. I am also going to chat a little about the game as well as my thoughts, and of course I will also tell when it was released, what company put it out, what it was rated as well as if I beat it. And keep in mind the games, I am ranking all have to be in my personal collection and on the original format so no digital rom games will be on here, as all that I am ranking are on the classic disc. I will be ranking them mostly on my personal opinion and of course elements like game play, spookiness, graphics, sound, music, replay value, villain(s), story, characters and presentation will all play factors in the ranking as well. So if you are ready, let’s dust off the old Sony Playstation and bust out the old discs and see what horror titles on the system brought the scares to this gamer.

Roswell Conspiracies - Aliens Myths And Legends PSX Game

Roswell Conspiracies
Released in 2001     System: PSX   Company: Ubi Soft    Rated: T    Beat: Yes

This game was based off the cartoon and has you playing as Nick Logan as you run around blasting monsters and then capturing them as this is your job. You along the way must fight off werewolves, vampires and even solve some puzzles in order to complete your mission. This is a really simple game and is clearly aimed at young gamers who enjoy monsters, aliens and shows like The X-Files. But because the game is so simple and the plot is a little thin, this starts to become kind of a bland play and if you did not watch the cartoon, you would really have no reason to play the game. The game packs very light chills as it’s more about the action than scaring the player. I got this game when released for very cheap and can remember never really getting into it even after beating the game. But I guess I should say if you like the cartoon find this one and give it a play, but as you can see it finds itself in last place here on my countdown list.

The X-Files Game PSX Game

The X-Files
Released in 1999     System: PSX   Company: Fox    Rated: T    Beat: No

You are FBI Agent Craig Wilmore, and you have been given an assignment from Skinner to find the missing Agents Scully and Mulder. You are joined by police officer Mary Astadourian and you discover that aliens have taken over the bodies of humans and have a sinister plot that is unfolding, and now you have to use your skills and training in order to stop this silent invasion as well as find the missing agents. This is a FMV Point and Click game that takes place during the third season of the TV Show and features all the actors from the show reprising their roles. And while seeing the actors was cool, the gameplay and putting along plot is kind of what makes this game a miss for me when playing, now don’t get me wrong I am a sucker for FMV games and was and still am a big fan of The X-Files, it’s just this game was lacking something to make it be a must play for me and my friends, as I can remember several of my friends starting to play the game at get togethers only to stop it pretty early on as they got bored and wanted more action, horror and suspense in their gaming experience. The game is pretty fun if you are a mega fan of the show, but most casual gamers will not find this a fun play, but it does have some spooky moments that might scare you if you are playing it in a dark room on a windy stormy night.

Dracula the Last Sanctuary PSX Game

Dracula: The Last Sanctuary
Released in 2002   System: PSX   Company: DreamCatcher   Rated: M   Beat: Yes

This is the second game in the point and click Dracula games that is a very slow game that sadly is pretty boring overall as the plot has you as Harker going after Count Dracula in order to get back his wife Mina and has to confront Dracula as well as all those who serve him. This is a slow paced Point and Click game and while it is fun, it also kind of drags in spots much like the first game in the series. And while the game does have some spooky moments and Dracula is a great villain it just kind of lacked something for me as a player. This is a game I played as a teenager and got it when it first came out, and can remember none of my other friends who played horror games wanted to play it as most were not fans of classic Point and Click games, but while it is very low on my list and a little slow I really don’t hate this game, its just not one I would play very often, but if you like Dracula and classic games that play in this style make sure to check this one out.

Dracula The Resurrection PSX Game

Dracula: The Resurrection
Released in 2001   System: PSX   Company: DreamCatcher   Rated: M    Beat: Yes

Jonathan and Mina Harker are having a happy life after the destruction of Count Dracula, but after Mina goes missing and a cult of Dracula worshipers want to bring the vampire back, Jonathan must set on a quest to get his wife back, stop the cult and kill Dracula once again if he is brought back to the world of the living. This is a pretty fun Point an Click Horror Game that does a great job of bringing in atmosphere as well as showcase a continuing story for the Dracula legacy. And while the game is for the most part entertaining as you play through and watch the story unfold, it also is a little slow moving and can drag at times with some elements of were do I go and do present. This is a game I got when it was released and can remember sitting in a dark basement and playing it, and when I beat the game it did feel pretty good to defeat Dracula once more. While this game is low on the list the reason for this is cause I did find it to be a little slow and is a game that after beating I have not put back in to replay, but if you like Point and Click games or Dracula make sure to give this one a play.

Invasion From Beyond PSX Game

Invasion From Beyond
Released in 1998     System: PSX     Company: GT       Rated: E     Beat: No

This is like a classic alien invasion film put into a fun yet very challenging video game that offers some chills and lots of flying fighting action. This game has you play as a fighter pilot who must fly around and fight off UFO’s as a full fledge alien invasion is taking place and you are the only hope for mankind’s survival. This game is really challenging as for me I could not get the hang of flying the plane around in order to fire at the enemy UFO’s, and this caused lots of frustration and at times un-fun gameplay. The challenge of the game is both great and terrible as we all love a challenging game when its that way because of a difficulty, but it’s not so good when its that because of the controls. The graphics are pretty cool and I do like the premise of the game that feels like it would have been a script for a Sci-Fi film from the 1950’s. And I do not have much connection to this game, as it is not one I played growing up and did not get it into my collection until a few years ago, so I have no nostalgia to help me look past its flaws. And while it’s not a terrible game it just is not a very fun one either as it’s also very repetitive and lacks that something that would make it a must play game for fans who like alien horror. Not much to say here besides it was a fun time waster until it got on my nerves.

Countdown Vampires PSX Game

Countdown Vampires
Released in 2000     System: PSX     Company: Bandai       Rated: M     Beat: Yes

Countdown Vampires is considered to be one of the worst Survival Horror games for the Playstation as it has sloppy controls, is way to easy to beat and the vampires are not that threatening causing players to turn on this one pretty fast and it scoring very low rating with both players and critics. The game has you play, as Detective Keith J. Snyder who is assigned to work as a bodyguard at a casino called The Desert Moon that is horror themed that turns into a true house of horror when black goo comes out of the sprinklers after a fire and this causes the people the goo touched to turn into vampires! Keith is now running around the casino fighting off vampires, saving lives and trying his best to figure out what the hell is going on as these monsters are blood thirsty and someone or something had to be what created them with the goo. This is a really cheesy and goofy game with some really basic controls and laughable voice acting, but yet it tries to deliver some scares along the way even if it fails to deliver. Countdown Vampires is a real clone of Resident Evil and trades vampires for zombies and a casino for a mansion. Over this game is nothing special but for me did kill some time as I waited for the next Silent Hill and Resident Evil game to be released.

Killing Zone PSX Game

Killing Zone
Released in 1996     System: PSX     Company: Acclaim       Rated: T     Beat: Yes

The fighting game craze was massive thanks to games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Tekken and Horror themed fighters was a no brainer so entered Killing Zone that allowed players to pick from seven different types of monsters like Skeleton, Mummy, Frankenstein’s Monster, Gorgon, Minotaur, Dark Faerie and Werewolf and each have their own fighting styles and powers that make then deadly. The game is very basic in it’s fighting and is not a fast paced fighter that players were into at the time and that is why this one slipped through the cracks and sadly is a pretty forgotten fighter only showing up now on YouTube game review shows from time to time. The game plays on the fear factor of their fighters and backgrounds, as this one is more about the fights than the frights. When playing this game you will notice that there is no real special moves and that speed is not in favor of these monsters, but while a slow pace fighter it is really fun to play with your friends as who don’t like a monster vs. monster fights. The game is a sequel to Battle Monsters that was released for the Sega Saturn back in 1995, and while a fun play for a short time it is one that is at the bottom when it comes to fighters. Also should say that the game is pretty easy to beat once you get down the controls and your monster of choices fighting style.

Rampage Through Time PSX Game

Rampage: Through Time
Released in 2000     System: PSX     Company: Midway       Rated: T     Beat: Yes

Rampage is a classic game series that got a rebirth in the late 90’s and this is the fourth game in the series and has our monsters George (Ape), Lizzie (Lizard), Ralph (Wolf), Harley (Warthog), Curtis (Rat), Boris (Rhino) and Ruby (Lobster) traveling through time causing chaos and destruction for Scumlabs who must finally fight the giant monsters at Area 51! While this game has a new storyline and adds at least one new monster to the roster with that being Harley they did not change much of the game play and you once more spend level after level just bringing down buildings and structures of all types and fighting off military machines along the way. And while I am a rampage fan by the fourth game in the series you would have hoped that Midway would have added something different to the mix besides monsters and backgrounds. And while this game is a repetitive fun one that brings the three classic monster characters back it is also just lacking something for me that made it one that I played and beat, but never felt the urge to play through it again. Not really spooky but does deliver of giant monster destruction. Not much else to say besides the weakest of the Rampage games for the Sony Playstation.

Alien Resurrection PSX Game

Alien Resurrection
Released in 2000     System: PSX     Company: Fox       Rated: M     Beat: No

This first person shooter game was so delayed and almost seemed cursed that it was doomed from the start, but with that said while flawed it really is not a terrible game. The game has you playing as Lt. Ellen Ripley who is stuck on a ship along side some mercenaries and must fight off a horde of Xenomorph’s and the Queen in order to survive and escape this doomed vessel. The game loosely plays into the film featuring many of the characters from it, and at times part of the game can deliver some jump scares with the Xenomorph coming out all around to get you. The main issue with this game is that when it comes to first person shooters featuring the characters from the Alien films this one just falls flat compared to them as games like “Alien Trilogy” and “Alien vs. Predator” just delivered better gaming experiences, making this one feel behind in the times when released in 2000. But I also do have to say that the game does offer some fun moments and has you also fighting off other marines will using all types of weapons, and the game also gives you missions to complete and this helps add to the storyline and keeps it from just being get from point A to point B without dying. The game also packs a little of a challenge and the graphics are not bad at all. And the only reason this game is so low is that it kind of feels like a clone of another Alien game for the PSX that is much higher on this list, so while it is fun, it is nothing new and I would rather play a few other first person shooters for the Playstation before this one.

Juggernaut PSX Game

Juggernaut
Released in 1999     System: PSX     Company: Jaleco       Rated: M     Beat: Yes

This is a very strange and spooky game that plays on mood and atmosphere in order to bring the chills down your spine and has been described as unsettling by many players. In this point and click game you play as a man whose girlfriend has been possessed by a demon and you must enter the mind of your lady that is now like a haunted mansion that is filled with puzzles, items and strange visions and in the end you must save her soul from a devil like creature and truly find out the dark secret of why she has been chosen. This is truly a strange game that moves along slowly but the story start to unfold a little more as you continue on your quest to save her soul, and this feels very creepy as you see strange things all around you as you push forward and solve these puzzles of the mind. This is not your typical style Horror Game and really feels more like it should be on the PC but it is a very spooky game that will surely please fans of point and click games. I also have to say I like the devil at the end and while not overly hard, it is one of those games you feel like you accomplished something when you beat it. The reason this game is not higher is I do find it to be a very cool horror game is because it is one that I played later in my life and did not find it hard to beat and because that I think it is one of those games you will play once or twice in your life and be done with it. But I do recommend it for fans of point and click horror games and for those who like trippy mind games that have to do with demons. And do keep in mind the game is very slow paced and is not action heavy at all.

Alone in the Dark One-Eyed Jack's Revenge PSX Game

Alone In The Dark: One-Eyed Jacks Revenge
Released in 1996     System: PSX    Company: Infogrames       Rated: T     Beat: No

This is the second game in the Alone In The Dark series and has Edward Carnby who is a Supernatural Private Eye along with his partner Ted Stryker heading to the Hell’s Kitchen Mansion on a case that involves mobsters kidnapping a young girl, but after Ted is killed and Edward is all alone he finds that these mobsters have been taken over by the evil spirits of pirates thanks to voodoo magic and he must fight for his life in order to save the young girl plus find out why they want her and stop these pirates once and for all. This is another game that I have almost when released as I was able to get a copy from a second hand media store in town, and found it to be a fun and spooky game…but the graphics and controls is what took me out of it and made it that I never sat and played the game all the way through. But I have to say I do like the character Edward Carnby and find the concept of ghost pirates taking control of the bodies of mobsters in the 1920’s during Christmas to be a pretty awesome story. I really do hate having this Alone In The Dark game so low on this list, but again if you have ever played this eye sore with the bad controls you would see why I had to do so. This is a game that could really do with a remake as all the pieces are here for a good horror game and the Alone In The Dark series really does need to make a comeback to the world of modern gaming.

OverBlood PSX Game

OverBlood
Released in 1997     System: PSX     Company: EA       Rated: T      Beat: No

This is a Sci-Fi Horror Game that was made as a way to rival the Resident Evil games and has you play as Raz Karcy who wakes up from a cryogenic box and you are confused and scared and must figure out a way to escape the research facility that you are stuck in. Along the way you make a friend with a robot as well as Milly Azray all the while you are solving puzzles, wondering around, fighting off both infected people as well as illness yourself. And that is why this game was met with very mix reviews as players felt that the game was just way too slow paced and that the scares were just to far and few. I can remember buying this game from Blockbuster Video back in the day and while I enjoyed the slow burn style game play I did find myself getting bored as I like good solid scary baddies in my Horror Games. And another thing that goes against this game for me is that the story and voice acting is pretty cheesy and not fully in a good way. But while this game is pretty low on my list and it does have lots of flaws I do not hate it and have some great memories playing it late nights. I would say if you enjoy Horror themed games were you wonder around going through doors, solving some puzzles and fighting off some enemies as the plot slowly unfolds give OverBlood a shot.

Crypt Killer PSX Game

Crypt Killer
Released in 1997     System: PSX     Company: Konami       Rated: T     Beat: Yes

Who doesn’t like a creepy Horror themed first person shooter that allowed the player not only to use the regular controller but also light guns to shoot down attacking monsters! In this game you play as a Crypt Raider who is being guided around levels that are like caves, crypts and temples fighting off the monsters and creatures that live in them in order to find the Eyes Of Guidance but in order to get your hands on these keys to open the doors of fate you have to fight a boss like sea monsters and such. The game is pretty fun and is a rail shooter so it moved you automatically through the locations and makes your focus of gunning down your enemies. And while this shooter is pretty basic and the enemies cool but generic I am a fan and have always enjoyed playing this game by myself or with my friend Jason Gilmore when I was younger. This is also a game that I wished would have gotten sequels but do to the poor reviews Konami killed this series after the first. And while this game is not ground breaking nor super iconic I for one enjoy it for all the simple reasons of it being a game to kill time with while shooting monsters!

Rampage World Tour PSX Game

Rampage: World Tour
Released in 1997     System: PSX     Company: Midway       Rated: T     Beat: Yes

Rampage is a video game series that I have been a fan of for a very long time as I can remember playing the arcade version at a local Hills Department Store and even back in the day trading a friend at school for a copy of it on the NES. And in the area of the PSX, the series would make a sort of comeback with a new take on the classic destroy the buildings formula. World Tour is the second Rampage game and has you playing as George (Ape), Lizzie (Lizard) or Ralph (Wolf) who escape a Scumlabs facility and go around the world to attack their other labs and kill the employees, and finally you battle the Scumlabs boss on the moon after he turns into a giant monster himself, well I should say you destroy buildings as he bounces around. Much like the other two PSX Rampage games, this has flaws as this game is repetitive, drags, is over long and while the graphics are great it just can not live up to the original. I will say that I do like that they try and give this game a storyline and for the most part that works as I like the idea of the monsters wanting to get revenge on the company that has tormented them for years. And for those wondering, yes, George is the monster I always play as in this game. Over all not a terrible game, just a little too repetitive for my taste, but I do say that it’s worth a play and own for fans of Rampage.

The Mummy PSX Game

The Mummy
Released in 2000     System: PSX     Company: Konami       Rated: T     Beat: No

This is based on the 1999 film by Universal and is an action horror game that is brought to us by Konami who was trying to be the rival to Capcom when it came to horror games! In this game you play as Rick O’Connell and you are on an expedition and of course you are on the bad side of The Mummy Imhotep who has his army of the dead as well as insects on his side. Oh did I also mention to you that your love interest Evelyn Carnahan is also in Egypt with you and could be in danger’s way! This game has very sloppy controls that at times leads to frustrating gameplay, but I have to say that I had lots of fun running around the darken tombs fighting The Mummy’s evil minions as the worst choice for a voice actor of Rick O’Connell drones on during cut scenes, like he sounds nothing like Brendan Fraser. The game has some spooky moments and the fight with Imhotep is kind of fun and adds to the chills. This is one of those games that is not for everyone as it does have flaws and can drag in spots, but for me it is a fun play and Shockley I have not beat this one yet…I need to get on that.

Martian Gothic Unification PSX Game

Martian Gothic
Released in 2001     System: PSX     Company: Take 2       Rated: M     Beat: No

This is one of those games I have a love hate relationship with as I bought this game when it was released as I was excited about the idea of a survival game that was about aliens, and when playing it I hated the controls and the puzzles were just annoying and there was way to many of theme. The game has you play as one of three players that have been sent to a Mars base called Vita-01 in order to find out why all the people there are dead, soon you find out that they opened a ancient Martian box that has unleashed something very sinister at the base as the dead are coming back to life and now you must find out how to survive and never meet each other again as this will cause the virus to spread even more…and this is what could doom the Earth. This is a fun game that has tank controls and a interesting story, but again the so many puzzles always took me out of the game and caused me never to finish it, and you know I really should revisit this game and finish it. The game also has some spooky moments and the lack of weapons to truly fight back makes this a good example of a PSX survival horror game. If you like games about aliens that has puzzles on puzzled then check this out, as again I don’t mind this game, it’s just something annoy me lots about it.

Shadowman PSX Game

Shadow Man
Released in 1999     System: PSX     Company: Acclaim       Rated: M     Beat: Yes

This is a game set in the world of voodoo and dark magic and is a strange mix of adventure and horror and is oddly enough based on a comic book series by Valiant Comics. The game has you play as Michael LeRoi, a voodoo warrior who is now the chosen one to keep the world safe from the creatures coming from the other side by Mama Nettie who infuses the mask of shadows to his chest, and you must collect dead souls in order to stop the coming Apocalypse that is being ushered in by The Legion who will do anything to destroy the land of the living. This is a pretty fun game that brings in elements of true crime as a character in the game is Jack The Ripper and the creatures or dark souls if you prefer can be creepy and add to the horror aspects of the game. And this is one that for years has been argued about between gamers as some do not see it as a horror game, while others do…I am the latter and that is why it’s on this countdown update. This is one I played when released and ended up beating some time later, I also have some good memories of playing this game with my pal Jason Gilmore during one of our many gaming marathons. If you like your action adventure games with a mix of voodoo and horror then this one is for you.

Alone in the dark the new nightmare PSX Game

Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare
Released in 2001     System: PSX     Company: Infogrames       Rated: E     Beat: No

This is the fourth game in the Alone In The Dark game series and is the first reboot made to try to get the series into the more modern game era as Survival Horror was in full swing. This game has you play as supernatural private investigator Edward Carnby who is looking into the death of his friend and this takes him to an island that unravels clues to do with his murder that includes ancient tablets, dark magic and ungodly creatures! What has Edward stumbled onto and how can he stop the upcoming darkness? You can also choose to play as Aline Cedrac, a university professor who also knows about the tablets and is going to try and stop the coming evil. This is a pretty spooky and fright filled game that is a mix of action and puzzle solving and delivers creatures that want nothing more than to kill you dead. Edward is a character that had been throughout the Alone In The Dark series that has your flashlight be your main weapon, as these monsters you face hate the light. This is a game I played when released and enjoyed the creepy nature of it as I had played pervious games in the series and liked this new restart to the series. I am shocked that I never beat this game and someday I will have to go back and revisit it and give it a go. If you like your Survival Horror games covered in darkness, puzzled and scares give this one a play.

Space Invaders PSX Game

Space Invaders
Released in 1999     System: PSX     Company: Activsion       Rated: E     Beat: Yes

Space Invaders is one of the greatest classic arcade games as well as one of the best games for the Atari 2600, and in the late 90’s the classic game was remade and was pretty dang awesome as they took the classic play and turned it up a notch. This game has you play as high-powered tank driver who is fighting off alien invaders who want to take over Earth, and you must keep fighting, as the invasion gets more and more intense as the levels go on. While this is a cool update to a very classic game, if I wanted to play Space Invaders on a home console I would play if for the Atari 2600 and not an enhanced version, and that is the only reason it finds itself at this spot on my list. Now keep in mind, it is a fun play and if you like fending off invaders from space then check this one out. This is also one that I played much later after its first release and I do respect that fact that they try and give the game a little bit of a story with an opening cut scene. Not much more to say besides if you like Space Invaders and want to play a more updated version then track this one down and give it a play.

Darkstalkers PSX Game

Darkstalkers
Released in 1996     System: PSX     Company: Capcom       Rated: T     Beat: Yes

This is a fighting game that has monsters fighting it out in the style of Street Fighter II, and yep it’s cause it was made by Capcom! The plot of this fighter is pretty simple as the Earth is in danger thanks to an invading demon who wants to devour our world, and monsters are the only chance to stop this from happing. You can choose from ten different monsters that include Sasquatch, female cat person Felicia, vampire Demitri Maximoff, werewolf Jon Talbain, merman Rikuo, stitched together monster Victor Von Gerdenheim, rock star zombie Lord Raptor, ghost samurai Bishamon, succubus Morrigan Aensland and mummy Anakaris. The fighting is fast paced and the combos, if timed right, can really help you win the fight. This game’s horror comes with the fighters themselves as they are all based on classic monsters and even the theme of an alien demon wanting to bring down the Earth is a little spooky. While this game is a classic, it is one that I did not play as often when it came to fighters as Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and one that will appear a little later in this countdown update. A fun game for sure and one that if you like monsters fighting each other you should play, and yes this game spawned sequels as well as comics and toys as it was a very popular Horror Fighter series for Capcom for years. And I can also remember back in the day having matches against my brother as well as friends.

Evil Dead PSX Game

Evil Dead: Hail To The King
Released in 2000     System: PSX     Company: THQ       Rated: M     Beat: No

This Survival Horror game is based on the classic Horror Movie series and the game takes place after the events of the third film (Army Of Darkness) and has you playing as Ash who along with his new girlfriend Jenny head back to the cabin in the woods to get over his fears and find that the deadites are alive an well and after taking Jenny, our hero Ash must go after her as well as fight his Evil Self and his own cursed hand! This game has a few scares and is a hack slash game that sadly has some of the worst controls in PSX Survival Horror Game history as at times you fill like you are swinging your axe or chainsaw wildly. The controllers is the tank style and can be a little awkward and is what makes combat way more difficult and brings lots of frustration. What does make this game work is the atmosphere that is dark and creepy, spooky and scary villains and an iconic hero as its great playing as Ash. And this game also sparked two sequels and was a great starting point to reintroduce Evil Dead back into video games, as the first was way back in the Commodore 64 days! This is by no means a great game, but it does have a solid story that showcases elements from all three original Evil Dead films and brings characters like Evil Ash and his Possessed Hand back into the fold…and yes, I know that part of the reason I enjoy this game is because I am a fan of the films, but I also know that because the bad controls is why I have never beat the game.

Resident Evil Survivor PSX Game

Resident Evil: Survivor
Released in 2000     System: PSX    Company: Capcom       Rated: M     Beat: Yes

Resident Evil made the jump into first shooter person gaming with Survivor, and since its release it as been meet with lots of hatred by most RE fans, but it as well as built up its own cult following for trying something different. This has you play as a pilot who escapes a helicopter crash but with no memory of who he is, and worse he is stuck on an island that is ran by Umbrella and that has an outbreak of its own! Along the way you fight off zombies and other creatures as the story of who you are unfolds and you must find a way off the island before is self-destructs, save some young kids that have been left behind on the island as well as uncover who you really are all the while fighting a Tyrant that is stalking you. I understand why, when released, that this game was met with bad reviews and anger from RE fans who wanted tank controls and a more deep story, but for me it was just a side story in the RE universe that had ties to some of the characters from the main games and was a way to hold us over for Resident Evil 4 that was coming soon on the PS2. The games controls can be clunky and having to use the controller and not a light gun as it can slowdown your attacks on the enemies. While this is not the perfect or best Resident Evil game on the PSX, it is one that I spend many hours playing growing up and did enjoy this spinoff storyline.

Primal Rage PSX Game

Primal Rage
Released in 1995    System: PSX     Company: Warner       Rated: T     Beat: Yes

This is a fighting game that is very much rooted in Horror as its Kaiju or Giant Monsters fighting and killing each other and even eating humans in order to get a boost during battle! The game even has a plot that involves a meteor that has hit Earth and has caused it to be destroyed and the remaining humans form tribes and worship monsters that have awaken after the destruction and now they fight for the land and to be the dominate one. The player can choose from a total of seven fighters that are broken into two sides the destructive group that wants the world to go even darker are Diablo a fire breathing dinosaur, Vertigo a snake like dinosaur creature and Choas who is a ape. The virtuous beasts are Blizzard a giant ape, Sauron a Tyrannosaurus, Talon a raptor and Armadon as spiky dinosaur. Each character has their own powers and some are really silly as the ape Chaos uses foul farts to affect his enemies! The game is a little slow and clunky on the PSX as it a port of an Arcade Game, but with the slowness comes the charm of having giant monsters fighting! And I will also say that at times pulling off special moves can be annoying on the PSX version. This game has a cult following and sadly while a Primal Rage 2 was in the works, it never got an official release. I played this game all the time in the arcades and once it came to PSX, I played it solo as well as against friends. A fun Horror themed fighter that is due for a rebirth on modern systems.

Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver PSX Game

Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver
Released in 1999    System: PSX     Company: Eidos       Rated: T     Beat: Yes

It took around three years for the next game in the Legacy Of Kain series to be released and this time around you play as the vampire Raziel who covers his face do to it being disfigured and the world of Nosgoth is in chaos as Kain has raised an army of vampires and they have killed off most of the humans. That causes a magical wheel underground not to spin and give life to the land, and now it’s up to Raziel who is at odds with Kain in order to get the land once more set right as well as find the Elder God who lives underground and controls the wheel. This is a really fun action horror game that adds to the story of Kain and the land of Nosgoth and allows you to play as a vampire who has had his own kind turn on, and this game also plays Kain as the main villain and in the end it’s vampire vs. vampire for the fate of the land. This was a sequel that my friends and I was very much looking forward to, and for the most part it lived up to our excitement and also introduced us to Raziel who is now the series’ main hero and a great foe to go up against Kain. If you like your horror games to have a vast world filled with dark magic and vampires then give this one a play.

D PSX Game

D
Released in 1996     System: PSX     Company: Acclaim       Rated: T     Beat: Yes

D is a interactive movie horror game that has you play as Laura Harris who is heading to a hospital that her father committed a mass murder spree in and she wants answers to what set him off and caused all this, but she gets the shock of her life when the hospital turns into a castle that is filled with nightmares, weird visions and voices that she must put together in order to find what she seeks. Can Laura find her father, can she save him from the curse of…Dracula and his blood! This is a very strange game that is more of a movie that you can interact with by finding and using objects. The main appeal of this game is its strange story that deals with mass murder and the cure of being a vampire, plus let’s be honest its really cool that the D stands for Dracula as anytime you can work that icon of Horror Media into something I say do it! This game has been met with very mix feelings by gamers over the years as many think that the lack of true game play makes it a lame experience, while others like that it’s more of a animated movie that allows you to help move the story along. This is a game that I have been a fan of ever since I rented it from Blockbuster Video when I was a teenager as its story kept me playing and the fact that you have to play through it in one sitting made for a spooky rollercoaster ride the late night I played it. While this game is not for everyone, this Dracula game will always have a place in my aging gamer heart.

Nightmare Creatures PSX Game

Nightmare Creatures
Released in 1997     System: PSX     Company: Activision       Rated: M     Beat: Yes

A Horror Game series that I feel has not gotten its share of the fame over the years is Nightmare Creatures as it’s truly a spooky game that is filled with some very cool monsters as well as a good story line that revolves around a cult as well as brings in elements of gothic horror. The game has you take control of priest Ignatius Blackward or Nadia Franciscu,s the daughter of a murdered doctor who was studying a book that had the secrets of the cult who are now working with the evil Adam Crowley who is responsible for creatures and monsters appearing all over London, England! The mood of this game is grim and the dark streets of London are a great backdrop for this tale of gothic cult horror. The downside to the game is that it does get a little repetitive as you just hack and slash your way through levels of the same monsters, but to be fair welcome to that area of gaming. This is one that I got close to when it was released and enjoyed playing it to completion as I did enjoy the story and wanted to see it all unfold. While it is not as iconic as Resident Evil, Silent Hill or Alone In The Dark, I do think Nightmare Creatures is on par in popularity with Clock Tower and Dino Crisis. And for those wondering I liked playing Nadia as her swords were cool and she moved faster in my opinion. If you like hack slash Horror games that do offer a challenge to beat then make sure to checkout Nightmare Creatures.

Doom PSX Game

Doom
Released in 1995     System: PSX     Company: Midway       Rated: M     Beat: Yes

The classic PC game was ported to PSX in 1995 and was a combo of the first game as well as Doom II and was a welcomed addition to gamers who loved horror titles. In this game you play as Doom Guy who armed with an assortment of weapons goes on a one man quest to stop the demons that are invading Earth and preventing Hell from taking over as well as the true end of times. This is a classic and it was cool to see a port of the game that as well had some changes make it to home consoles as the title truly is a very iconic first person shooter as well as a must play and own game. The one downside is that some levels from Doom and Doom II have been removes for the PSX version so it did not give gamers the true gaming experience that PC gamers got. The game is filled with all types of demons who add to the horror of a game that is based around Hell. Doom Guy is an awesome hero and a true icon for heroes in games. A game that I got almost when it was released and is one that I played lots, and while it’s not a great as the PC Version or the newly remastered version for PS4 this one is pretty dang great.

This has you take control of Doom Guy as you battle the hordes of demons that want to try and invade Earth and armed with all types of weapons from a chainsaw to a rocket launcher you set your sets on sending them back to Hell. This is a great first person shooter and for me is the true start of that craze that is still going strong in gaming to this day and could be the best first person shooter not only in Horror Games but video games in general for me. This is much like Doom for PSX that we just spoke about as if takes the same engine and just builds onto it. The game can be spooky and does give a challenge when trying to beat it. Over all another great Doom game and is one I played not as often as I should have.

This is the classic light gun rail arcade game ported to home console and is a pretty fun game that that allowed you to use a light gun or even your controller to play. The game has you play as a member of the Strategic Tactical Advanced Alien Response team as a race of aliens called the Kronn and their zombie slaves are attacking the military base Area 51 and it’s your goal to stop this attack as well as the invasion of Earth that could be in the cards if you fail. Now I am not a huge fan of light gun shooters as most I find to be a little boring as they have you on a grid that automatically moves you forward through the whole game, but for some reason Area 51 is one that I have always enjoyed just behind the House Of The Dead series. The aliens and the zombies are super violent and want you dead, and they can also offer a few jump scares as they pop into frame. The game also ported over to Playstation very well and this is a very underrated series when it comes to Sci-Fi, Action Horror games. This is one I played pretty often and was one I had to beat when I got it back in the 90’s. Over all if you like rail shooters and like games about aliens and zombies, give this one a try as it’s a pretty fund fast and challenging game.

The game can be a challenge as some of the areas are maze like and the aliens are fast and will sneak up on you and hurt you, as does their spit acid blood that you must be aware of. The game being first person helps add to the spooky nature as the aliens are coming after you and your gun needs to be ready to bring them down or they will kill you. This is also proof that games based on movies can be great if done right and if the right time is spent on them you can have a enjoyable game. The game is pretty challenging and does have some jump scare moments as the Aliens will scream that can make you jump when playing late nights. This is one I played solo a lot as well as with my pal Jason Gilmore who is the one who gave me this game back in the day. A must play for fans of Alien both in films and games.

Blood Omen Legacy Of Kain PSX Game

Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain
Released in 1996     System: PSX     Company: Square       Rated: M     Beat: Yes

This is a very bloody and fun overhead game that has you take control of the vampire named Kain who was turned into a blood drinking and is now in the land of Nosgoth drinking human blood and on a quest to fight for his life as some humans have made it their goal to kill all the vampires as well as fight with those vampires who are chaos and set to destroy. This has you fight both humans and vampires as well as uncover the dark secrets of the land as well as those who protect the pillars that are the source of power, and best of all in the end you get the choice to save the world or bring it down. Kain is a very interesting character as he is kind of an anti-hero who is both good and evil and the world of Nosgoth is very interesting and deep and should be explored more with future games for these modern systems. The game play is pretty smooth in this game and the overhead camera works well for this style of game, plus drinking the blood of your enemies is very cool and adds to the horror elements of the game as many gamers see this more as an action game then a horror one, but I have always seen it as a vampire Horror Action Game series. Spent many hours playing this game over the years and was one that when you beat it you feel like you have accomplished something big. Great game and is a challenge for sure.

Dino Crisis 2 PSX Game

Dino Crisis 2
Released in 2000     System: PSX     Company: Capcom     Rated: M     Beat: Yes

Regina survived a lab leak that had her and her fellow Secret Operation Raid Team being attacked and some killed by dinosaurs, and now she has been brought in to supervise a team to get samples to study and she soon finds herself once more being attacked by meat eating dinosaurs. And once more she must fight to survive as well as uncover who, what and why this new outbreak is taking place. The Dino Crisis series does a fantastic job of making dinosaurs scary and brought a tough female hero into gaming as Regina is underrated when it comes to heroes in Horror Games. This game has the classic tank controls and is very challenging and has puzzles as well as boss fights that will surely scare those who are not ready for a challenge. The original game in the series is a fantastic Survival Horror game, and this sequel is a good follow up and helped add to the world and story this series was building. This game also allows you to play as Dylan and I also have to say Capcom took a little of the horror elements out and added more of a Sci-Fi action feel to it over all. This is a game I can remember playing solo or with my friend Jason Gilmore and when I beat the game it left me wondering what was next for the series, and what we got was a mess of a game that was only for Xbox released in 2003 and they set it in space and removed Regina from the series…and it has remained a dead franchise since then. Over all a great game and I have to stress to Capcom give us a new Dino Crisis game or at least remake them like you have for the Resident Evil series.

Castlevania Chronicles PSX Game

Castlevania Chronicles
Released in 2001     System: PSX     Company: Konami     Rated: T     Beat: Yes

This is a great game as it’s an updated remake of the classic original Castlevania game with better graphics and fighting combat. The game has you play as Simon Belmont, and you are on a quest to bring the end of Dracula who has along with his army of monsters have been tormenting and killing people for decades, armed with your whip and other elements of battle you head to his castle with courage and might as you must not fail. Castlevania is one of my favorite games for the Nintendo Entertainment System, and this remake is one hell of a great play as the graphics look great and all the changes help make the quest feel more epic, but that’s also partly why it does not find itself higher of this list as the simple nature of the NES game and it’s difficulty is what makes it so good to me. If you are a fan of Castlevania, this is worth playing as it does its job of updating and iconic game, bringing Dracula back to being scary and is a must own for collectors even though it has a high price sticker. This one I played more when I was an adult as I did not own it when released as it being a remake of one of my all time favorite games was not on my radar then as I would have just played the original if I wanted to play.

Clock Tower 2 PSX Game

Clock Tower II
Released in 1999    System: PSX     Company: AgeTec     Rated: M     Beat: Yes

The world of Clock Tower is a very underrated game series, and this sequel is a good follow up as it has you play as Alyssa Hale, a high school girl who is having issues cause another person’s soul has taken residents in her body named Bates, and he wants to take over her body! Now Alyssa must fight for her soul as well as the world around her is turning dark as loved ones and strangers are turning into monsters and zombies walk the hallways. Are these visions real or is it Bates just messing with her mind is the question all gamers face as they play through this underrated game. This is another point and click game that is more about avoiding then combat and this adds to the terror as you have to think fast during moments in order to survive. This one as well is more about The Maxwell Curse and does lack the appearance of a masked giant scissors carrying madman. This one has a good atmosphere and can be a challenge and has some jump scare moments that help add to the Survival Horror game genre as a whole. If you like point and click Horror Games that have an interesting unfolding plot as well as multiple endings, make sure to track this one down, but keep in mind it is a little pricy. And this is one I can remember playing late nights with the goal to beat it as well as give myself a few scares.

Nightmare Creatures II PSX Game

Nightmare Creatures II
Released in 2000     System: PSX     Company: Konami     Rated: M     Beat: Yes

This game is lots of fun and allows you to hack up monsters using your trusty axe and sometimes Rob Zombie music plays adding to the wild nature of the game. In this game you play as Herbert Wallace, a mental patient at the evil Adam Crowley’s genetics hospital who escapes and with an axe tries to fight off the evil monsters and creatures the Crowley’s occultist magic as brought to the streets of London, England and his goal is to fight Crowley himself to stop all this madness as well as for all the tortures he has done to him and others at the hospital. Plus it’s all also for Rachel the love of his life who as well is caught up in this madness. And this game is very bloody as you kill everything in your way and while the gameplay can be a little repetitive I for one love the atmosphere as well as the story being told, plus playing as the well spoken and yet unstable character Herbert Wallace adds to the over all feel of chaos, sadness and dread that fills every level. And while the game can give you a challenge and at times the controls and camera seem to work against you, it is beatable, as I have done so several times over my lifetime. This is a game I played alone at night with all the lights off and was a great gaming experience in 2000. This one is not for everyone, as some of you will be annoyed by the gameplay as well as the repetitive combat and enemies that appear, but if you like hack slash games check this one out as it is a game I very much enjoy. Plus Konami should bring back Nightmare Creatures or even just place it into the Castlevania world.

Resident Evil 2 PSX Game

Resident Evil 2
Released in 1998     System: PSX     Company: Capcom     Rated: M     Beat: Yes

Resident Evil 2 was a great follow up to the original game and added more terror, more story and more layers to the series and proved that Capcom was the King of Survival Horror Games at the time. The game has you play as either Claire Redfield or Leon Kennedy in Raccoon City two months after the events of the first game and another zombie outbreak has infected the citizens and they are trying to stop it as well as get information on the G-Virus, a bio weapon that can turn humans into bio creatures of war. And worse Umbrella, the pharmaceutical company who are responsible for the outbreak, also unleashes a massive bioweapon man called the Tyrant loose in order to hunt down Claire and Leon in order to stop them from uncovering their dark secrets and exposing it to the world. This game offers a challenge to the player and ups the stakes as well as the action and causes you to have to think and act fast in order to survive. Plus besides the zombies and monsters The Tyrant offers a few good scares. Many think that RE2 is the best game in the classic series, and I find it fantastic just not the best for me. I have great memories of playing this game with my friends Jason Gilmore and Dave Wean. Another must have for any Horror Game collector.

Dino Crisis PSX Game

Dino Crisis
Released in 1999     System: PSX     Company: Capcom     Rated: M     Beat: Yes

Capcom had Resident Evil as their top Survival Horror game series but they knew that fans wanted more and with that came the short lived and yet very awesome Dino Crisis series. This one has you take control of Regina, a female agent for the Secret Operation Raid Team who is looking into a research facility that has went dark and was the site of a to secret weapons project, with her is fellow agents Gail, Cooper and Rick and they soon find that the secret project is loose as it’s man-eating dinosaurs who are on the hunt to kill and has caused the mayhem at the lab. Now you must fight to survive as well as uncover the dark nature of this outbreak and if the Doctor behind these experiments is truly dead. This is a great game that makes Dinosaurs scary and adds that Resident Evil touch to its story that draws you in as it unfolds before your eyes. And being chased by a T-Rex is stuff of nightmares! Regina is a great hero and guiding her through this horror as well as puzzles makes beating the game feel more important. It’s a true shame that Capcom fails to see how great this series is and that they have not delivered a remake or sequel in many decades, and heck they could even just at this point pull the characters into the Resident Evil series and people would be happy as who wouldn’t want to fight zombies and dinosaurs! A truly fun and spooky game that I played all the time and had a blast doing so with my friend Jason Gilmore, and with that, again, this is a must own for any fan of Survival Horror games.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night PSX Game

Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night
Released in 1997     System: PSX     Company: Konami     Rated: T     Beat: Yes

Castlevania is a game series for me that for decades was the top Horror Game Franchises of all time and while now in days I would say that it has dropped behind the likes of Resident Evil and Silent Hill it still remains a very iconic series even if Konami has dropped the ball as a company. In Symphony Of The Night you take control of Alucard, who is the son of Dracula who is on a mission to bring down his father’s castle, but that does not happen as you are stripped of all your weapons and powers by Death and must gain it all back as your father’s army of creatures and monsters attack and in the end you must face your father Dracula and try to end his reign of terror as well as avenge your mother Lisa who was blamed to be a witch. This is such an amazing game and is considered many to be the best game in the Castlevania series as it’s a challenge to beat, has a great story and allows you to upgrade your weapons and abilities. Plus you get to play as a vampire and better yet, the son of Dracula and even has some appearances by Richter Belmont! The score music done by Michiru Yamane is also amazing and helps add to your quest, and while this is not the most scariest nor bloodiest Horror Game on this list, it is very much a great quest one that features many classic monsters and has top notch game play. This is one I bought when released in 1997 and I can remember playing it for hours with my pal Jason Gilmore and is one that when you beat it you feel like you have been through a rollercoaster of classic horror fright. A must own for any game collector.

Resident Evil PSX Game

Resident Evil
Released in 1996     System: PSX     Company: Capcom     Rated: M     Beat: Yes

This is the game that started the big Survival Horror boom in the video game industry and is the one that made these types of games must plays for gamers the world wide. The game has you play as S.TA.R.S team members Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine who along with Wesker and Barry Burton are stuck in a mansion in the middle of the woods as zombies and creatures are all around trying to make you dead, you have low ammo and must solve puzzles in order to get deeper into the mansion and find out who is responsible for this outbreak as well as try and escape Raccoon City alive. This is one hell of a game and really has some down right spooky moments with one being the iconic first zombie you come across and his slow turn to look at you…creepy stuff. The game also had its fair share of blood and really did seem to be scaring players as the story and the stress of the game would chill your blood and make you anxious as you fought your way through the zombies and monsters. The game also made Tank Controls the standard for all the RE clones that followed for many years. I first saw and played the game with my cousin Norman, and he was a fan and I quickly became one as well from the moment he handed me the control. This is a must play and own game and if you are a classic gamer or even a new gamer and you have not played or own it make sure to get yourself a copy.

This is a game that I feel is very much often over looked when people talk about great Horror Games for the PSX and for me it has always been one of my all time favorites from the moment I first rented it I went on a hunt to buy it because it was a must have for me and its been one I have played and beat many times over the years as the game has multiple endings. The game has you play as Jennifer Simpson, a young girl who survived an attack by a killer called Scissorsman who has now shown back up and the killing starts all over again. Jennifer is on his list of victims and she must survive in order to find out who and why Scissorsman has returned. This is one of my all time favorite Survival Horror Games and is one that from the moment I rented it from a video store knew I had to own and tracked it down and bought it. The game is a point and click spooky experience that brings jump scares, an interesting story and a cool killer for players to try and dodge and defeat. While this is not your normal style of Horror Games for home console players, it was hands down one of my favorite Horror Games of all time and while the game is pricey now do yourself a favor and track down a copy and give it a play.

Resident Evil 3 PSX Game

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Released in 1999     System: PSX   Company: Capcom     Rated: M     Beat: Yes

The third game in the Resident Evil game series still is one of my favorite Horror Games of all time and I would even be so bold to say that its my favorite one in the whole series as there is always been something very awesome and spooky about this one. The game has you playing as Jill Valentine, who is trying to escape Raccoon City that has been taken over by the zombies who have been infected by the t-virus, but she has more to worry about when Nemesis shows up with a mission to kill all members of the S.T.A.R.S. team and that puts her are a big target! Now she must fight for her life as well as save those living she comes across all the while fighting the zombies, monsters and of course Nemesis who all want her dead. This game is truly a Survival Horror one as bullets are few and far between and once your machine gun is empty, things do get more difficult. Nemesis is a fantastic monster that chases you around the game and even will kill the zombies if they get in his way as he truly has only one thing on his mind and that’s to bring you death. This is one game that I have played and beat several times and felt good about doing so as its challenging and that is what makes it so good. Plus I really do also like the music used in this game as well as like the story and characters and this is one that almost made my # 1 spot and was only slightly beat out. I should also note that I have lots of great memories playing this game with friends like Jason Gilmore and this is the game that I use to crack my brother up when playing as I would make an injured limping Jill try and escape the zombies and would say “Come On” in my best Captain Rhodes impression from the 1985 classic film Day Of The Dead.

Silent Hill PSX Game

Silent Hill
Released in 1999     System: PSX     Company: Konami     Rated: M     Beat: Yes

My # 1 has to go to Silent Hill, an amazing game that has you take control of Harry Mason who after an accident driving wakes up to find his daughter Cheryl missing and he is in the strange town of Silent Hill were the fog is thick, the people he meets are strange and monsters roam about when the air siren goes off. This game has some great scares as well as the story just draws you in as Harry must solve where his daughter is and what is going on in Silent Hill! The game also has multiple endings that will have you coming back to play again and again to unlock them all. This was a game that I played when released, and I can remember playing it late at night with all the lights off in the basement and some how the light of the TV Screen in the darkened room just added to the over all creepiness of the game, and that is the thing this game will give you a good fright and has some good jump scares as well as characters that you find yourself bonding to. The atmosphere in the game is also top notch from the rusted out school to the fog riddled streets everything just works so well in the game and let us not forget the amazing music as well! While I love so many of the Horror Games on the Sony Playstation, it’s Silent Hill that hands down is the best of the bunch for me and is one that I feel holds up even to this day.

Silent Hill PSX Game 1Silent Hill PSX Game 2Silent Hill PSX Game 3

Truly Silent Hill is one of the greatest Horror Games of all time as nothing can even come close to this game in scares, atmosphere and story for me and this is hands down my favorite game for the PS1. And really this system is my all time favorite one as while I grew up playing Atari 2600, Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo and PC Games before I got a PS1 it still is the system that had me locked as a gamer for life. Now don’t get me wrong, the NES is up there for me as one of the greatest Home Consoles of all time, it just got pushed down as being my favorite once I all the classic Horror Games started to get released for the PS1. But enough of me talking about the PS1 as we have came to the end of this update, but before we fully get away from the PS1, I would like to tell you that at some time in the coming years I am working on getting my friends to do their TOP 5 Favorite PS1 Horror Games…and if I can get enough of them to do so, I will make sure to get it up here for you readers to check out. Also I am working on Horror Game Countdowns for others systems like NES, Game Boy and even Commodore 64 so keep your eyes open for those as well. And before we go our separate ways, I would like to tell you that our next update will take us our of the world of Video Games as well as horror and into the future were rebels fight the machines…no, I am not talking about The Terminator but am talking about Captain Power! So until next time, read a comic or three, play a video game or two and as always support your local Horror Host. See you next time are we fight the future and all the zany robots in it!

From Horror Movie To Horror Comic: Willy’s Wonderland (2021)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Welcome back to Rotten Ink, and boy do we have a fun and over the top “From Horror Movie To Horror Comic” for you readers this time as we will be talking about Willy’s Wonderland, a very cool indie horror film that takes things like pizza restaurant “Chuck E. Cheese” and game series “Five Nights At Freddy’s” to more of the extreme and dashes in Satan and flesh eating for good measure! The film was a cult classic out of the gate and over the years gains more and more fans thanks to home media, streaming and the horror comic mini series we will be taking a look at here. For me Willy’s Wonderland is such a fun and creepy watch as I grew up going to birthday parties as places like Showbiz Pizza and Check E. Cheese that had animatronic characters singing and entertaining the customers. So if you are ready, let’s order a pizza and some soda and grab a table as Willy and his friends are about to perform and put on one killer show, and I am sure that we will have a bloody good time.

Willy's Wonderland 1

The Animatronics with the souls of dead serial killers are the villains of this series and are lead by Willy Weasel and his friends include Tito Turtle, Knighty Knight, Arty Alligator, Siren Sara, Cammy Chameleon, Gus Gorilla and Ozzie Ostrich and they are twisted and cold blooded and love to kill. Willy and his demonic animatronic crew have many ways to deal death as many have sharp claws and sharp teeth or beaks that very quickly rip and tear flesh and with these tools, they can dispatch a human very easy from major loss of blood and guts being removed with brutal fury. They also eat the human flesh and that is what helps keep them alive. In the case of Knighty Knight, he has a sword that he uses to cut off body parts or even just rams it through your body and do to his power he can deal death blows with one movement. While many of them are also strong, it’s Gus Gorilla who has more strength and can break bones and squeeze the life right out of you. While Cammy Chameleon can use her tongue to wrap around victims as well as can choke them to death and snap necks. While most of them are slow moving Siren Sara is fast and can use her speed to trap and murder her prey. And let’s not also rule out their appearance as its frightful and causes people to freeze in fear as well as cannot believe what is coming at them. They are also very sneaky and use their tricks in order to snag and kill their targets including the gift of manipulation. They can and will also kill and attack in groups but are just as deadly on their own. They are also Satanic and get their powers from a pact they made with the Devil making them very evil and mean spirited. But they are not immortal and can be killed by all sorts of ways with ripping of their heads being a big way to kill them you can also smash, crush, blow up, run over and dismember them and that will stop them as well. But while they can be defeated, Willy and his gang are very dangerous and could rank high for their killing ways in the world of From Horror Movie To Horror Comic updates.

Willy's Wonderland 2Willy's Wonderland 3Willy's Wonderland 4

So as you can see, Willy Weasel and his friends are killing machines and can take a human life in seconds and enjoy doing so as they eat the flesh and guts of their victims. But it’s now time to talk about the film Willy’s Wonderland that Willy Weasel is from and this is going to be a fun one! Like always, we will be taking the film’s write up from our pals at IMDB and then I will write about the film’s production as well as my thoughts of the film. So if you are ready, let’s find our chairs as Willy and his friends are about to put on a show.

Willy's Wonderland 5Willy's Wonderland 6Willy's Wonderland 7

Willy’s Wonderland (2021)

“A quiet loner finds himself stranded in a remote town when his car breaks down. Unable to pay for the repairs he needs, he agrees to spend the night cleaning Willy’s Wonderland, an abandoned family fun center. But this wonderland has a dark secret that the “The Janitor” is about to discover. He soon finds himself trapped inside Willy’s and locked in an epic battle with the possessed animatronic mascots that roam the halls. To survive, he must fight his way through each of them.”

G.O. Parsons worked on a horror script that was called “Wally’s Wonderland” and placed it on the website Blood List that is a website that industry workers can take a look at and vote on scripts in the horror and sci-fi genres. And that is when Screen Media Films as well as actor Nicolas Cage would step in to help produce and distribute the film, and Cage would even come on board to act in the film. Also on board were producers Jeremy Davis and Grant Cramer, and the film was gaining major attention from fans as well as horror news websites and building it up already to become a cult classic. The film would also get a name changed to “Willy’s Wonderland” and some of the killer animatronics would also change. The film would get a budget of $5 million and filming would start in February 2020 and took place in Atlanta, Georgia and a closed bowling alley was used as Willy’s Wonderland restaurant. Actors brought in include Emily Tosta, Ric Reitz, Caylee Cowan, Beth Grant and Chris Warner, to name a few. Once the film was ready it was scored by Emoi and it would have a limited theatrical run on February 12, 2021 and would bring in around $457,144.00 worldwide and would find cult statues via home media and streaming. The film was released that year alongside other horror films like Werewolves Within, The Night House, Antlers, Malignant, The Unholy and Halloween Kills to name a few. The film was meet with mixed reviews by critics and had better reviews by fans and the feedback also has sparked talks of a sequel that could be made in the future.

Willy’s Wonderland is one heck of a fun and gory film that packs in blood kills, creepy killer animatronics characters and even Nicolas Cage turns in a great mute performance as the badass Janitor. This was a film that I sadly missed when it had a limited run in the theaters and to be honest I am not sure what theater around here even showed it. I had to wait for the film to come to home media before seeing it, and I have to say I was a fan from the very start as you can never go wrong with a film that has killer animatronic characters running wild in a rundown fast food joint. And I have to say at first I was not going to give the film a watch as I was so sick of all the Nicolas Cage memes and how he became every ones “favorite” actor for his over the top performances and before this odd movie roles and spending choices. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Nicolas Cage and enjoy many of his moves over the years like Raising Arizona, Vampire’s Kiss, Con Air, 8mm and more, what I had an issue with was the mocking fan base who made him into a walking internet meme. For having a low budget, I feel the film did a great job of creating gore effects as well as the costumes for the killer mascots, not to even mention that the score and music by Emoi is well done and super fitting as you have to love a movie that has a theme song that is about the film and uses the title as the chorus. I also have to point out that when seeing this film actress Caylee Cowan who plays the character Kathy Barnes blew my mind on just how pretty she is and is fantastic in her role. While of course Willy Weasel is my favorite of the baddies I would say that Knighty Knight would be my next as he reminds me of a mascot I would have seen at Burger King or even a Put-Put Golf course when I was a kid, plus he has a massive sword and likes to slice and dice with it. And while I like Willy and Knighty, I have to stress I find all of the bad guy characters interesting. Can we also talk about the fact that the town allows people to die and be eaten by Willy in order to keep him in check, and that everyone seems to be in on this besides the town’s kids as the sheriff, mechanic and building owner are trick people into going inside knowing they will never get out alive…now that is truly a town with a big dirty secret. Man it seems like I have a lot to say about Willy’s Wonderland but I will wrap it up with it’s a fun film that deserves its cult following and I hope that a sequel is made soon as I would love to see it.

Willy's Wonderland 8

As you can see, Willy Weasel and his friends are one mean pack of killers who love to kill and eat their victims and you can also see that the film is a modern cult classic because it brings something fun to the killer machine subgenre. But now it’s time to take a look at the comic series and I would like to thank Game Swap Kettering having these issues in stock and making this update possible. And I also want to thank American Mythology Comics for making this comic as well as so many other series that are based on horror films and giving is horror comic readers some amazing stuff to read. I want to remind you all that I grade these comics on a star scale of 1 to 4 and am looking for how well the comics stay to the source material, its entertainment value and its art and story. So if you are ready, let’s head into Willy’s Wonderland for some cheap food, but I think we should stay away from the Super Happy Fun Room.

Three homeless people have made a shelter out of Willy’s Wonderland to escape the rain and to have a place to eat, when they are attacked, killed and eaten by Willy Weasel and his friends. A few years later Tex Macadoo has bought Willy’s Wonderland to reopen and has even hired Jeb Love to work maintenance on the animatronics and holds a sneak peek for the press and some families before that nights grand opening and the towns Sheriff as well as Deputy Eloise Lund think opening this place is a bad idea after all the murders that took place inside those walls. Once inside Knighty Knight almost chops in half a parent who just in time ducked down to tie his shoe, and no one noticed this besides the man son and Tex who ushers people out and Jeb goes to work on Knighty. The staff of Willy’s Wonderland go to work on cleaning up and getting ready for the night, when Bella who is also the young lover of Tex is killed by Willy and his friends to make a point to Tex who is then informed by Jeb that the spirits of the past owner and workers all who were murders are in side the animatronics and they need to be feed with human flesh or the whole town is in trouble and Willy Weasel is pure evil. Throughout this we also get flashbacks to killer Jerry Robert Willis who would become Willy Weasel and the past owner and Sara a dancer who killed her cheating husband and his mistress and she would go on to become Siren Sara.

The first issue of Willy’s Wonderland is a great read and does a great job of being the prequel to the film as we get to see a few of the kills that happen before the film as well as we get a look at the evil satanic killers that’s spirits end up in the animatronic characters at the restaurant. The plot of the issue is about Tex Macadoo opening back up Willy’s Wonderland after a series of murders and disappearances, only to learn that the place houses Willy Weasel and his friends who are the vessels for the spirits of satanic killers that use to work and own the restaurant. Tex Macadoo is a man who had big dreams of making big money, but soon finds out that he has instead opened a nightmare for those who come to eat and play games there as well as he now has a curse on his hands. Jeb Love who is the town’s mechanic as well as maintenance guy for the reopened Willy’s and is also the one who figures out and has to tell Tex about Willy and his flesh eating friends. Willy Weasel and his friends are very cold blooded and enjoy killing and eating their victims and do so very mean spirited, they in fact kill a young female staff member just to show Tex that they mean business and need to feed and need to kill. I really like that they give the backstory for Jerry Robert Willis who was a serial killer of families that he would trick them by acting as if he is a photographer of family portraits, and then he would butcher them all…he of course would end up becoming Willy Weasel. We also get a look at Sara who was a dancer who during a performance learns that her lover is cheating on her with another dancer and she kills them both and shows off their bodies on stage. We also see that Jerry and Sara both are at the same mental asylum and are becoming friends as they are both monsters inside. The issue is filled with lots of blood and gore that will surely make Horror Comic readers happy. The cover is great and very eye catching for the fans of the film and the interior art done by Puis Calzada is top notch as I like the way he draws Willy and his friends as well as the brutal killings the commit. Over all this is a great first issue and has me hooked on wanting to see what is next.

Business is going good at the newly reopened Willy’s Wonderland but reports of people going missing in the town start going around including one man who Willy Weasel kills outback behind the restaurant. The Sheriff and Deputy come to investigate and Tex makes up a story and they leave him be for the time being. Meanwhile a little later another staff worker that is cleaning the bathroom is brutally killed by Tito Turtle and Arty Alligator as they are hungry and he was in the wrong place at the right time for them as it was lunchtime! Meanwhile a rich man comes in with lots of money and wants to rent Willy’s Wonderland for the night in order for his Grandson and his friends to have a sleepover for his Birthday…Tex agrees but knows this is a bad idea. While the party is going on, one of the female staff is having to chase around some kids and when they get away she is killed by Siren Sara. And a little later Jed locks two parents who are complaining about the pizza in a closet were they are murdered by Knighty Knight and Cammy Chameleon, as they are hungry and just want to kill. But things go really wrong when the Birthday Cake comes out and is a severed head and Willy Weasel and the rest of his friends go on a killing spree killing kids, parents and staff in a blood frenzy. Two staff members escape as does Tex and Jed, and when the Sheriff shows up he warns Tex that he can not cover up this slaughter and that the restaurant is now closed for good. We also are treated to the human background stories of Arty Alligator, Gus Gorilla and Cammy Chameleon.

The body count rises, and Willy Weasel and his friends are more blood thirsty in this second issue of Willy’s Wonderland! The plot of this issue has a sleepover-taking place at the restaurant and what should be a happy birthday party with friends and family together turns into a bloodbath when Willy and the rest need to feed on flesh and chaos. And this issue is filled with lots of blood and gore that includes people being ripped in two, flesh is bitten off and people are chopped in half by a sword…as you can see this one is filled with violence. The backstories we get in this issue are also very interesting as we get a look at the humans that would become the killer animatronics. Gus Gorilla is a man who worked at the zoo who is pushed to hard by his boss who likes to call him names plus miss treats him, and she then finds herself being punched to death till her face caves in. We also see that Cammy Chameleon is a woman in the Asylum that has split personalities. And we see that Arty Alligator was a serial killer who after murdering people would use their blood to paint pictures on the walls. We also see that these three end up becoming friends with Jerry Robert Willis and Sara in the asylum and that Jerry is having control over them and has them play twisted games while locked up. Tex Macadoo makes a big mistake in this issue as he knows that Willy wants to kill and has been killing but because of money he allows a over night birthday party to take place at the restaurant and this leads to a lot of people dying. It’s also made clear that Tex and Jed are paying off the Sheriff in order to not look to deep into the missing person cases that are happing and that the police force is as greedy as Tex is. The cover is very cool and features Gus Gorilla and Tito Turtle and connects to issue one to build a scene of the stage. Once more the interior art is done by Puis Calzada and is great stuff as once more the way he draws Willy and friends is great, plus he sure can draw some crazy murder! Another fun, spooky, gory and simple issue that does Willy’s Wonderland the film justice, let’s see what issue three has in store for us.

Willy’s Wonderland # 3  ***
Released in 2022     Cover Price $3.99     American Mythology    # 3 of 4

At the home of the man who has been hired to demolish the Willy’s Wonderland building they are attacked and killed brutally by Gus Gorilla, Tito Turtle and Cammy Chameleon as they are not going to allow their home and feeding ground to be destroyed. A few nights later The Sheriff and Deputy Lund head to Willy’s and find Tex Macadoo inside dirty and very much in distress over the slaughter that took place there and that he witnessed, the officers get him out of the building as Willy watches them do so from the shadows. But the town is now a slaughter house as Willy sends his friends out to kill and feast on the townspeople with Tito Turtle and Arty Alligator killing the hardware store owner, Knighty Knight and Cammy Chameleon kill the ice cream man, Siren Sara and Gus Gorilla kills the High School Janitor and his lady and finally Willy along with all the others head to the basketball game and kill and attack the players as well as the fans and are chased off by The Sheriff and Deputy who now know they have to head to Willy’s Wonderland and fight with these monsters. Tex wakes up in the garage of Jed who informs him that this nightmare is far from over while the surviving staff get together and arm themselves as they want to bring down Willy for taking their friends life. We also get the human background story for Knight Knight, Tito Turtle and Ozzie Ostrich plus we get to see how Jerry Robert Willis is able to get more and more psychos in his group from the asylum.

The third issue is very entertaining as the plot has Willy Weasel and his friends going on a killing rampage in the town to show that they mean business and that no one will ever destroy their home and hunting ground and if something does happen then they will be free roaming in the town killing anyone they want. Poor Tex Macadoo is really upset about the massacre that took place at his restaurant and is drinking his sorrows away, but is more horrified when he learns that he will have to keep helping them feed. A cool subplot that is happening as well is the two staff that survived the massacre gearing up in order to avenge their friends by killing Willy and the gang. Willy Weasel is clearly calling the shots as he sends his friends out in groups in order to kill as many people as possible that night and you can tell he is doing so to prove that he is in charge and that the humans need to also live in fear of his wrath and hunger. Siren Sara also shows that she is a cold blooded killing machine as between her and Gus Gorilla I think they seem to be having the most fun killing. This issue is very bloody and is packed with gore and kills and some of downright gruesome as one kill has them using a ice cream scoop on the eyes of a victim with another having Willy smash in a basketball players face with a basketball. The human origin stories we get this issue are for Ozzie Ostrich who was a killer that choked his victims to death due to the abuse he suffered at the hands of his mother. We see that Knighty Knight worked at a renascence festival and finally snaps from taking verbal abuse from some of the guests and snaps and kills them with his sword. And we see that Tito Turtle was a field worker who killed all his sleeping co-workers one night. And with them Jerry Robert Willis has seven followers who he friends them all do to their killing ways. The cover is another great one that fits in with the first two issues to build the stage and on this issue the main focus is Knighty Knight and Cammy Chameleon. The interior art is done by Puis Calzada and is great stuff like before and more Horror Comic publishers should be hiring this guy. Another fantastic issue, and I cannot wait to see what the next issue has in store for us as we know a big clash is bout to go down!

Willy's Wonderland Comic 4

Willy’s Wonderland # 4  ***
Released in 2022     Cover Price $3.99     American Mythology    # 4 of 4

The Sheriff, Deputy Lund and Tex gets the town people together all armed and head into Willy’s Wonderland in order to get revenge for all the killings, but they are unprepared as Willy Weasel and his friends slaughter everyone including the two surviving staff members and they make sure to do so in very bloody and sick ways almost tormenting and taunting people as they murder them. Once inside Jed Love arrives as Willy Weasel and his friends stand behind him and he tells Tex and Deputy Lund the other two survivors that it’s simple if they all want to live all they need to do is feed them buy giving them people and in front of them gives Willy and the rest a family…but not before Lund takes the young girl from the sacrificed family as she can not bare for her to be slaughtered. In the end some time has passed and Jed with the help of Tex and now Sheriff Lund bring a man to Willy’s Wonderland after he ran over a bed of nails. The man is clearly the brother of The Janitor who is the lead character in the film. This issue also showcases how Jerry Robert Willis along with the rest of his psycho friends are able to escape the asylum and by doing so they kill a ton of nurses, orderlies and even the Doctor before stealing a truck and making the big break were they find the building and plan on opening Willy’s Wonderland.

This is truly the final showdown between the town and the evils of Willy’s Wonderland that sadly ends with evil being the winner as Willy Weasel and his friends massacre everyone who goes against them and then forces those who survive that have some sort of power to now work for them by bringing them people to kill and eat. Willy Weasel is a true evil mastermind as he both as a human and as a killer animatronic called all the shots of his friends who will do whatever he orders and he really is a very dangerous and evil person or should I say thing? His friends as well are all very dangerous with each of them having their own ways of dealing death to victims and I would say that Siren Sara, Gorilla Gus, Knighty Knight and Tito Turtle are some of the more violent ones with all the others following behind them with Arty Alligator almost being in this series one of the most violent as he even at one point drives an axe into the skull of a man. Finally in this issue as well the Sheriff and Tex Macadoo try and do the right thing after three issues of allowing money to control their bad decisions that lead to many people dying. It’s odd that in the comic series Jed Love is very much connected to Willy Weasel and his friends and almost seems like he is friends with them and is not bothered by feeding them people, when in the movie he almost seems like he hated what he had to do and feared them. It’s also interesting to watch Eloise Lund go from hero Deputy to by the end becoming Sheriff and going along with the idea of leading people into Willy’s grip. Plus we have to mention that its clear that The Janitor’s brother was a victim of Willy Weasel and maybe that is why he was driving around that part of the state as he might have been looking for his brother, and for those who don’t know The Janitor is the character Nicolas Cage plays in the movie. The issue is very bloody and gore filled as is the whole series, and it does a good job of doing the film justice even though it does make some changes when it comes to the looks of the killers that would become the animatronic killers as the comic and film versions look very different from each other. The cover for this issue is cool and is the final part of the stage and shows Arty Alligator and Siren Sara being all murderous, and once more Puis Calzada does the interior art and it’s fantastic stuff. I think that Willy’s Wonderland makes for a great comic series, and I hope that more issues are released in the future as this film’s character make for great source material for quality Horror Comics. Check out some of the artwork below to see the style used by Puis Calzada in this mini series.

As you can see, Willy’s Wonderland made for a great horror comic mini-series, and it did a great job of also showing the history of the human versions of the killers and tells about their horrific crimes that lead them into an asylum and into the grips of the future Willy Weasel. And I have to give American Mythology one more shout out for being a cool indie comic company and doing these comic based on all types of horror films. R.I.W Wrestling Legend: Vampiro

Welcome back to Rotten Ink. We once more find ourselves at the Rotten Ink Arena for a spooky “R.I.W Wrestling Legend” update event as the Halloween season is a perfect time to take a look at horror themed wrestlers that scare and entertain fans, and who better to be in the main event than Lucha Libre legend Vampiro who has been a big draw in wrestling since the early 1980’s and is still around to this day. As you can see, the Arena has spooky decorations all around and they have vampire’s blood punch and creepy crawler finger sandwiches at the snack bar, so let’s grab a cup and find our seats as this is going to be one hell of a great event and I can not stress enough that this time of the year not only makes me think of horror films and horror hosts but also horror video games, horror novels and horror themed wrestlers, and I am very much looking forward to this update event as I have always been a big fan of Vampiro. But as you can hear, the music has started, so let’s find our seats and see what Vamp has in store for us this Halloween season.

Vampiro 1Vampiro 2Vampiro 3

Vampiro started his Pro Wrestling career in 1984 and was trained by Abdullah The Butcher. He would work as a jobber in International Wrestling out of Canada and would be in the business at the age of 16. He worked for International Wrestling from 1984 to 1991 before being signed to CMLL, the biggest promotion in Mexico at the time, and would then get the name Vampiro Canadiense. From the start, due to his look and being a vampire character, his popularity grew very fast and would become one of the company’s big stars. He would have big bet matches (Hair vs. Hair) as well as would take on some of the companies top stars like Perro Aguayo, Pierroth Jr., Blue Panther and Fuerza Guerrera, to name a very few. Vampiro, no matter if he was a Tecnico or Rudo, was being cheered by the fans and was building a strong female following. During this time as well he would work a few matches for Universal Wrestling Association as well as promotions in Japan. In 1996 he would leave CMLL and work for AAA and IWRG before returning to CMLL in 1998 for another brief run. During this time in CMLL, Vampiro would also start his real life feud with Konnan, who was one of the company’s top stars. This rivalry would continue off and on for many years and was about the popularity of both Luchadors as well as Vampiro being cast in a soap opera that was supposed to go to Konnan. His work in CMLL as well as appearing from other federations started to also get the attention of many American companies.

Vampiro 4Vampiro 5Vampiro 6

In mid 1998 Vampiro would make his way to WCW and would not fully become part of their roster until 1999 when he was booked as a heel and would be in a group called “The Dead Pool” with Raven as well as Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J, better known as rappers ICP and would have a small run together going after Konnan, Rey Myserio Jr. and Eddie Guerrero. From there Vampiro would turn baby face as he would have matches against Berlyn and his bodyguard The Wall, and from there he would feud with Dr. Death Steve Williams and would team with the punk rock band The Misfits. During this time as well Vamprio would have matches in WCW against other luchadors as well as solid mid-card workers and was getting over with fans in America who liked his brawling style and his horror themed look and attitude. In 2000 his biggest feud in WCW would take place as he would find himself teaming and then turning on Sting. The two would have all types of matches and Sting would even be set on fire by Vampiro who at this point had joined the group called The New Blood that was being run by head booker Vince Russo and would be the younger wrestlers of WCW who were sick of the legends that made up the main events and locker room. Vampiro would once more team with ICP and this time add The Great Muta to his group that would be called “The Dark Carnival” and he would go after The Demon and his lady Asya, that is until The Demon would join his twisted group and Vamp and his crew would continue to feud with Sting. Through the rest of 2000 and into 2001 Vamprio would find himself winning Tag Team Gold (the only title that he would hold in WCW) with The Great Muta as well as just floating around in odd feuds, including one with Mike Awesome. In 2001 WCW was bought by WWE, and they closed the company’s doors and Vampiro’s contract was not picked up by WWE, and this ended Vamprio’s time in WCW.

Vampiro 7Vampiro 8Vampiro 9

After the closure of WCW in 2001, Vampiro would head back to CMLL and as well would work for many other companies all over the world. While back in CMLL he would be a big draw and would be used for big matches and PPVs and would mostly have him teaming with Shocker. He would also work matches for All Japan Pro Wrestling at this time and would do only a one month tour. He would also in 2002 go to Puerto Rico and work for World Wrestling Council and would even during his short time there, capture the company’s Universal Heavyweight title. He would also appear in XPW off and on from 2001-2002 and would work a small run for Impact in 2003 where he would feud with Raven. But still during this time his main federation was CMLL, and he would have matches against many Lucha Libre stars like Atlantis, El Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Lizamark Jr., Super Crazy and Dr. Wagner Jr. But his run in CMLL would come to an end in 2005 as he would leave to join Mexico’s best promotion.

Vampiro 10Vampiro 11Vampiro 12

In 2005 Vampiro, as well as many other Luchadors, would leave CMLL to go work for AAA and would work for them off and on for years as even up to this update’s posting he can be found in AAA doing events and appearances for them. In 2007 he would leave AAA to work a very small run for CMLL before leaving them for good, but also that year he would work for Wrestling Society X, a short lived promotion that was produced by MTV, and in 2008 he would returns to AAA as well as to XPW again, and this would start his run on working for the indies with one of his two big runs being for Juggalo Championship Wrestling (JCW) where he would become that company’s World Champion around three times. He would also work for Lucha Underground starting in 2014 and would stay with them until they closed up in 2018 and was a part time wrestler and a commentator. During his run in JCW, he would work with such wrestlers as Mad Man Pondo, The Powers Of Pain, Colt Cabana, Kongo Kong and 2 Tuff Tony, to name a few, and in Lucha Underground he had a iconic match with Pentagon Jr. that is considered one of the best matches in the promotion and that’s saying something. But over time Vampiro has slowed down working matches due to age and mounting injuries, but even that has not fully stopped him. Vampiro is a great worker who bonded with his fans and should be in both the AAA and WWE Halls Of Fame as he has truly made a big impact in the sport of Pro Wrestling. Over the decades Vampiro has been in movies, video games and music videos, has had his own bands, been made into action figures and has graced all types of other cool merchandise. And who knows were and when Vampiro will pop up next and who he will face in the ring.

Vampiro 13Vampiro 14Vampiro 15

I first found out about Vampiro when I was a youngster as his CMLL action figure for some reason was at a local Dollar Tree store, and he captured by attention as it was clear he was a mix of Luchador with Horror and Rock n Roll, and these were all things I was a fan of! B efore he made his way to WCW, I can remember seeing some of his matches on grey market tapes and I became a fan as I liked his mix of Luca Libre as well as Brawling American style. I should also mention I remember him being in many of the wrestling magazines that my brother and I had growing up. But when he came to WCW in the late 90’s is when I truly became a mega fan and have followed his career ever since. I mean he is the reason I made sure to watch Wrestling Society X on MTV when it aired. For me the thing about Vampiro is that he could have great matches against the cruiserweights but could also be a main event guy and be booked in matches against the top stars of the promotions he was in. I also find his history in AAA and CMLL very interesting as he had the reputation of being a pain to deal with and because he was a draw, they allowed him to get away with his behavior. I also find his real life heat with Konnan interesting, and I am glad that they two seem to have buried the hatchet as they are both icons and both deserve all the fame they have worked for in and out of Mexico. Vampiro also over the years has been very outspoken about his time in wrestling and has spilled the beans on wrestlers like Sting, El Canek, Paul Heyman and others for their behind the scenes behavior. He has also lead a very interesting life from being a bodyguard for pop group Milli Vanilli, to being involved in the occult and secret societies, having evil spirits that follow him around causing him to have to have a exorcism, dated many Latina models, hosted a show about the paranormal in Mexico, toured the world with his bands, worked as a wrestling booker and so much more very cool and unusual stuff. And while over the years much of what he says has been questioned by others, with many fellow wrestlers calling him out for his injuries and illnesses he says he has, I for one still find Vampiro to be a very entertaining guy who is a great worker and a cool personality that always makes him stand out in the world of Pro Wrestling.

We are now at the point of this review where we will be taking a look at the DVD set and review some of the matches on the discs like always between 4 to 8. Best Of Vampiro

Match 1: Vampiro vs. Konnan

As Konnan plays up to the crowd on the microphone Vamprio attacks him from behind with a big clothesline that drops him to the mat. Then as Konnan tries to get up Vampiro unloads a series of kicks and then keeps his attack up on the injured Konnan who is struggling to get on his feet and make a comeback. Vampiro even climbs to the top rope and flings himself onto his opponent and then keeps kicking and stomping on him. At one point Vampiro points his finger into the face of the injured Konnan to talk smack as it’s clear these two have an issue that has carried over from Mexico to WCW. But when Vampiro misses a top rope splash, this gives Konnan a moment to catch his breath and unload some big punches and to make his comeback to take the momentum of the match for a moment. Konnan even hits a power bomb and gets a two count on Vamp. He then hits a DDT and is still only able to get a two count as the fans are really getting into this match. Konnan then hits a face buster, and Vamp rolls out of the ring. Konnan follows and the two start brawling. Vamp then grabs a chair and throws it at Konnan, and the referee has seen enough and DQ’s Vamp giving the win to Konnan by disqualification. After the match, Vamp continues to attack Konnan before leaving the ring. This is a great grudge match brawl that has both guys hitting some big moves and both clearly just want to hurt each other as they have great chemistry in the ring, and they are really telling a story of hatred, jealousy and history. Konnan, as always, does a fantastic job of selling as well as pulling off powerful looking moves as he gives a in my opinion very underrated clothesline as they look strong and like his opponents head might be knocked off. Vampiro is very quick in the match and his very aggressive and his anger comes out in his actions and makes him come off as a badass. Over all this is a great short match that helps build Vampiro as a heel and shows just how popular Konnan was in WCW.

Match 2: Vampiro vs. Steve “Dr. Death” Williams

Before the match starts, Williams’ manager Oklahoma is locked into a cage, and as Williams makes his way to the ring Vampiro jumps from the cage onto him taking him down with a surprise attack. Vampiro continues to attack outside the ring and is using his speed to keep his bigger and stronger opponent down. Once they get into the ring, Vamp continues his attack and uses punches, kicks, head butts to keep Williams injured, but then after a few moments Williams starts to make a comeback and the two exchange hits. Williams ends up hitting a series of football tackles to the knee of Vampiro, weakening him and then gets him into the corner and uses him as a punching bag. Williams misses a corner charge and this allows Vampiro to go on the attack once more and even hits a big backdrop on Williams that gets him a two count. But like before, the two end up just trading hits and holds, and Williams even hits a massive suplex from the top rope. At one point the punk rock band The Misfits, who are in Vampiro’s corner, try to get into the ring, and Williams takes them all down. But Steve Williams makes one big mistake when he attacks the refereem and this causes him to lose the match via disqualification, and by winning the match Vampiro gets five minutes in the ring with Oklahoma after Williams is forced to the back by security. This is pretty much a brawl that allowed Steve Williams to show off his power and for Vampiro to show off his skill, and while their styles clashed a little, they still did a great job of trying to make each other look good by selling hits and holds as well as each tried to showcase what makes them top stars. Oddly enough, this match was one of Williams last for WCW. Vamprio does a great job of using his speed and moves throughout the match to keep the heat on Williams, who in turn does a great job of hitting massive power moves that look very stiff and impactful. Over all this is a good match that featured two of my favorite wrestlers at the time. While it was not a smooth match, I would not want it any other way.

Match 3: Vampiro vs. Juventud Guerrera

As the bell rings, Vampiro and Juventud start shoving each other, and then Vampiro floors Juventud with a kick. The two then exchange some chops before Juventud is able to take him down with his speed, but he is stopped when Vampiro hits a big power bomb and even gets a two count for it. Vampiro takes control of the match and uses big moves to keep Juventud grounded. Once they take the fight to the outside Juventud is able to hit a big dive that floors Vampiro. But once they get back into the ring, it’s the power of Vampiro that takes back control, even hitting some loud and powerful chops and at one point works over the knee of Juventud. Both guys fight back and fourth and each miss a high risk move, but in the end Juventud is able to hit the Juvi Driver on Vampiro and this gets him the win via pin. This is a pretty fast paced match that allowed both guys to take control of the momentum and for the most part they try and tell a good story in the ring. Their styles mesh well for the most part with Juventud doing his highflying moves and Vampiro doing a mix of Lucha and power moves. The fans in attendance also seemed to be into the match, and while they are on the side of Juventud, they also cheer Vampiro when he hits big moves. While some of the moves during the match clearly had some miscommunication moments, it really is a fun TV bout that showcased two great Lucha Libre stars who are now both legends. Plus I have to say that I was surprised when Juventud was able to get the win as he hit a perfect Juvi Driver.

Match 4: Vampiro vs. Great Muta

As soon as the bell rings, Muta attacks Vampiro as well as ICP who are the mangers of Vampiro at the time, but as Muta sprays his green mist into the air Vamprio attacks him from behind and then unloads some chops before hitting a top rope spin kick. Vampiro tries for a top rope move and fails, and this gives Muta that chance to fight back against Vampiro and uses his speed to hit some impactful moves as well, Muta works over one of Vamp’s arms and uses his kicks to keep the momentum. Vampiro fires back with a Rock Bottom and is able to get a two count, but when Muta hits a moonsault, he is able to get the three count and win over Vampiro. This was a very cool match up that sadly WCW did not give lots of time when they really should have. These two worked very well in the ring together, and they both have a similar style that each made their own and putting them against each other just worked well. Muta is able to show his fast paced moves as well as why he was one of the best in the world to hit a moonsault as they are so smooth. Vamprio in the match does a great job of selling for Muta and as well does a great job of mimicking him in movements. This match should have been given more time as what little time these two had in this match was great stuff, and the fans in attendance clearly were behind Muta. Plus I would have loved to seen Muta hit Vampiro with the green mist. Over all a short but very cool match that should have been more.

Match 5: Vampiro vs. Sting

This is a House Of Pain Steel Cage Match (the rules are you have to shackle both of your opponents hands to the cage) and at the start of the match, Sting climbs to the top of the cage and the fans go wild. Vampiro waits for him inside it, but Sting uses his baseball bat and busts out a section of the cages roof and drops in and attacks Vampiro and even hits him with a Stinger Splash in the corner, Then the two start brawling with each man throwing the other into the cage and exchange hits and holds. But when Vampiro gets the advantage, he tries his best to hurt Sting as the fans boo as clearly they want Sting to win this match, but Vamprio just keeps using his speed and kicks to chop down the Icon Sting. The tide once more changes when Sting hits a power bomb on Vampiro, who was leaping from the top rope for a drop kick. Sting hits a series of moves, and as Vampiro is dazed, he is able to shackle him to the cage and get the win. As Vampiro is handcuffed to the cage Sting beats him up some more and then leaves the cage as Vampiro smiles even though he lost the match. This is a very strange and sadly way too short of a match between these two as the idea of the two being locked in a cage with no referee and no rules was a great idea, but sadly the match pretty much was rushed as Vampiro dominates the start of the match and when Sting gets the advantage, it’s only for a short time and a small amount of moves before he locks Vamp up and gets the win. The other odd thing is that the winner was supposed to beat the heck out of his shackled opponent, and Sting hits a few splashes and leaves, and this is billed as these two hating each other. The top rope power bomb is the most impressive move of this match. While the match is a little of a letdown when it comes to action, the two have great chemistry in the ring, and they tell a good story that has the fans going crazy and for that I myself found it pretty entertaining.

Match 6: Vampiro vs. Scott Steiner

As soon as the bell rings, Steiner uses his power to get Vampiro into the corner and unleashes punches on him. He then hits a big suplex and then press slams and drops Vampiro to the mat. Things are looking bad for Vampiro until he changes the tide with a big boot to Steiner’s face, and then he is able to land some hits of his own including his fast kicks, but Steiner is not down for long as he fights back and lands a powerful dropping elbow onto the chest of Vamp. Scott then tosses Vamp out of the ring and goes out after him throwing him against the guardrails as well as hits him with a chair and finally slams him on the commentator’s table and breaks it. Vamp is hurt but starts fighting back and even slams a chair over Steiner’s head. Then the action goes back into the ring as the two brawl with each other and even Steiner’s female mangers enter the brawl when Vampiro grabs his blowtorch and gasoline can and threatens to set one of them on fire until Sting comes out and smacks him in the head with his bat and then beats him with that bat all the way back to the ring where Steiner hits Vampiro with a belly to belly suplex and then makes him tap out to the Steiner Recliner, and with all that madness Scott Steiner is the winner. This is the clash of styles, and yet it worked very well in this match that pretty much is a brawl that is to showcase the power of Steiner as well as the crazy nature of Vampiro who tries to set a female on fire during the match. Oh and they also showcase his fast kicks. It’s crazy that the match did not end by DQ as they both smack each other with chairs and Sting shows up and beats the hell out of Vampiro with a bat. Over all a crazy match that for some reason just kind of worked in its madness.

Match 7: Vampiro vs. Hulk Hogan

Vampiro attacks Hogan as soon as he gets in the ring and keeps up his attack even knocking Hogan out of the ring and then goes out after him and throws him into the guardrails as well as even hits Hogan with a chair. But Hogan shrugs it off and fights back and even smacks Vampiro with a chair several times returning the favor. Hogan keeps up his attack all around the ring and even once back in the ring, he starts hitting Vamp with his weightlifting belt and then starts choking him with it. Then Hogan keeps up his attack even dropping elbows, and the fans are going crazy for The Hulkster. Hogan even hits his Leg Drop finisher but does not go for the pin instead he just keeps on attack Vampiro, and this allows Billy Kidman to come out and hit Hogan in the back of the head with Vamp’s blowtorch. Kidman then drags Vampiro over to Hogan, and he gets the three count and the win via pin. After the match Vamp and Kidman are about to try and set Hogan on fire when Sting comes to his aid and runs off Kidman, and they then beat up Vampiro. This is another cluster match that is pretty much a brawl between Vampiro and Hogan that has Vampiro winning the match and Hogan for the most part dominating the momentum of the match. The match is just a sloppy brawl, but is entertaining because the fans in attendance are really into it and Vampiro does a great job of selling for Hogan. Plus for those who are Hulkamaniacs, you do get to see Hogan hit his finisher the Leg Drop. Over all another mess of a match that is over booked and yet was a fun watch as it was cool to see Vampiro in the ring with Hulk Hogan, and the right wrestler even won the match. And I have to point out that Hogan clearly does not know how to deliver chair shots and even at times throws some very odd punches. AKA this match reeks of Vince Russo as it’s over booked and is more of a “shoot brawl” then a wrestling match.

Match 8: Vampiro vs. Van Hammer

As the match starts Van Hammer uses his power to slam Vampiro hard onto the mat, but then Vamp uses his speed to arm drag Hammer to the mat showcasing that he is just as strong. Vamp uses his speed to keep hitting moves on Hammer and even kicks him out of the ring and then dive out onto him. The two brawl on the outside with Hammer getting the better of the exchange and even once back in the ring Hammer keeps up his attack even hitting some big kicks and then gets him into the corner and unloads some big punches. Hammer continues to keep the momentum on his side and even tosses Vampiro from the top rope and then chokes him with the middle rope before the referee steps in. Once Vampiro is able to make a comeback he hits some thunderous chops as well as a headbutt and some quick kicks. Hammer is able to use his power to once more up his attack and even tries to hit big power moves, but Vamp is able to roll him up but the pin attempt is stopped when Hammer gets his foot on the ropes. The two exchange hits and holds until finally Van Hammer puts Vampiro into a chin lock and holds it for awhile, with this rest hold the loose the fans who go quite. After the hold is broke the two trade back and fourth again and then finally Vampiro gets the win via pin with a rollup. This is a odd matchup as it’s clear that Vampiro is slowing himself down in order for Van Hammer to keep up, and at first it seems that the fans are into the match but after Van Hammer’s rest hold as well as very awkward moves they loose them slightly. Vampiro does what he can with the stiff Van Hammer and is able to get a good match out of him. Vampiro is clearly the star of this match as he uses his kicks and moves to bring the impact to the match, and to be fair Van Hammer is really trying and does hit some passable power moves. Over all this is a standard match for TV and does a great job of building Vampiro, but it also is a little to long as it should have been around two minutes shorter as it was clear Van Hammer was slightly struggling to keep up.

Match 9: Vampiro vs. Ric Flair

The match starts off with the two of them trying to size the other up and then Vampiro is able to use his speed and takes Flair to the mat and is working over his knee, the hold is broke when Flair is able to get to the ropes. Vamp keeps using his speed and hits a pair of clotheslines and then a backdrop and this causes Flair to exit the ring to try and catch his breath. But even once back in the ring Vampiro keeps control of the match and even hits some very hard chops to Flair who he has backed into a corner. But Flair cheats and pokes Vamp in the eye and then puts him in the corner and lands some big chops, but after a big spin kick Vamp takes back control but losses it again when he misses a top move attack and this gives Flair the chance to work over the leg and knees of Vampiro, Flair keeps up his attack and even kicks Vamp in the stomach when he is down all the while the fans are cheering “Flair Sucks”. Vampiro is clearly hurt and Flair keeps up his attack working over his leg as well as getting cheap shots in when he can. But just as Vamp is about to make his big comeback Miss Elizabeth and Lex Luger make their way down to ringside and as she distracts the referee, Lugar hits Vamp with a baseball bat and this allows Flair to lock in the Figure Four and get Vamp to tap out. After the match both Flair and Lugar attack Vampiro. This is a really good match and both guys look great throughout the match and I have to say Flair does an outstanding job of making Vamp look like a main event star! Flair sells great for Vamp and also makes him look strong by having to cheat in order to win. Vampiro is able to show off his moves and speed and really does hold his own against a legend like Ric Flair. The two have great chemistry, the fans are really into the match and adding Lex Luger and Miss Elizabeth into the match makes it seem more epic as well makes Vampiro really look like a contender. A great match that I really enjoyed from start to finish.

Match 10: Vampiro vs. Lex Luger

Lugar at the start of the match uses his power to back Vamp into the corner and then smacks him across his face, Vamp responds with his speed and delivers a kick and a chop that knocks Lugar to the mat. Vampiro keeps the heat on Lugar and gets him in the corner and chokes him before flinging him across the ring and keeps up his attacks and does not let Luger get a chance to get the match going for his side. When Luger finally gets the momentum going its because he cheats and then is able to hit a very powerful back drop and it’s his turn to keep the attack up and even press slams Vampiro just to show that he is the strongest in the ring. Vampiro is able to escape a Torture Rack attempt and makes his comeback on Luger with his speed, kicks and top rope movies. But Ric Flair comes down to the ring and Vamp has to fight them both off and when the referee’s back is turned, Lugar’s manager Miss Elizabeth hits Vamp in the back with a ball bat and this allows Lugar to get him in the Torture Rack and Lugar wins via submission. This is another case of Vampiro taking on a wrestler who is the opposite of his style that some how just works and delivers a very entertaining match. Vampiro has the fans behind him for this one and is able to really show off his speed as well as impactful moves that Lex Lugar goes a great job of selling and making Vamp look like a rising star in the company. And on the other side Vamp as well does a great job of selling and allowing Lugar to show off his power and strength and sells for him really well. The match is a good back and fourth with each guy getting their time to take control of the match and it also has a good ending that has Lugar having to cheat and get the help of his manager and friend in order to win the match. While the match does not have any show stealing moves it is a very cool match that’s interesting to see as these two pit against each other.

Vampiro is a true legend in wrestling and as you can see that during his run in WCW he took on most of the companies biggest stars from Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Sting and so many others and was able to have great matches against them all showing that he could adapt to any style. I really do not think that Lucha Libre nor Pro Wrestling will ever have another like Vampiro as his attitude, style and personality can never be duplicated. And to me he is one of the best at being a horror themed wrestler, and he has always involved his look and style to the times and places he was working showing that he has a very creative mind. But as you can see, the house lights have came up and our spooky R.I.W update event is over so that is our cue to head to the exit doors, but before we do that let me tell you that our next update will take us to Willy’s Wonderland that rundown closed restaurant that houses killer flesh eating animatronics…won’t that be fun! So until next time, read a comic or three, watch a wrestling match or two and as always support your local indie wrestlers. See you next update, and let’s hope that Willy is not on the prowl as it will be the big Halloween update and he might be in a nasty mood.

From Horror Movie To Horror Comic: The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)

Welcome back to Rotten Ink. As you can see, we are entering The Conjuring Universe for this “From Horror Movie To Horror Comic” update. Shockingly enough it took until 2021for New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers to allow DC Comics to make a comic series based around the films, and I say shocking as they are all owned by the same parent company Discovery! And to be honest, I am very shocked on how little DC Comics and New Line Cinema have come together as they could truly use comic books to help promote their upcoming horror films. But sadly I feel that the big two in the world of comics lack imagination, and horror comics, as well as comics based on horror films their parent companies own, just are not a priority nor even cross their minds. So with that, let’s sit back and be ready to be scared as we enter the world of The Conjuring 3!

Conjuring Devil Made Me Do It 1

Before we talk about the film, let’s talk about Isla The Occultist and her ways of dealing death and conjuring the demons of Hell. Isla is the daughter of Father Kastner and had become obsessed with the occult and her studies has made her very powerful in black magic, placing curses and conjuring demons all to do her dirty work and cause chaos on the living that have crossed her path. Isla is a Satanist and Occultist who grew up obsessed with things on the dark side and as she has gotten older, she has made a deal with demons and uses cursed totems to place a target on random people in order to please them. Her black magic is very strong and allows her to allow demons to enter the bodies of her victims and cause them to do bad things from murder to suicide. She has a almost second sight and can see what others who have her gifts can see and this makes her dangerous as if you are a threat to her, she can find your location and send a sinister curse your way. She can also make her victims thank they are seeing things and have them attack their own loved ones and friends, as Isla is a master of mind games. But while she is a scary magical person she is still mortal and can be killed like any normal person via being stabbed, shot, drowned, burnt or beaten! She also has to use her altar to control her powers and if it’s destroyed her spells and deals with demons are broken and with the demons this could lead them turning on her and bringing her death. While she is mortal, her dark power makes her very dangerous and a person you would not want to be the target of unless you want a demon to take over your soul.

So as you can see, Isla The Occultist is very deadly due to her dark magic and can cause people extreme pain as well as death. Now I think we should take a look at the film she is from and that’s of course The Conjuring: Devil Made Me Do It, the third film in the series. Like always, the film’s plot will be taken from our friends at IMDB and after that I will write about the film’s production as well as my thoughts on it. So if you are ready, let’s hope that Isla has not cursed this update and take a look at this film.

The Conjuring: Devil Made Me Do It (2021)

“A chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.”

The Conjuring films that follow the cases of real life paranormal investigators The Warrens are one of New Line Cinema’s top Horror Franchises that has even had film spin-offs that have as well did good at the box office. And in 2016, a third film in the main series was being talked about by the film series creator James Wan, who at first mentioned that the film could be about the Warren’s famed Werewolf case, and in May 2017 it was said that the third film would not be another haunted house fright flick and would be one of the bigger cases of The Warrens careers and would take place in the 80s. And by June of 2017 New Line Cinema gave the third film the green light and it started production with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick being hired to write the script, and in 2019 James Wan came on to help co-write the script as he was not directing. They brought in Michael Chaves in to do so, and that the film would be based on the court case where a young man claimed a demon made him commit murder, and the Warrens backed up his claims. When casting the film Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson returned as The Warrens and names like Ruairi O’Connor, Debbie Glatzel, John Noble and Eugenie Bondurant was brought on board in big roles. The film was shot in Atlanta, Georgia and had a few setbacks due to the pandemic and even one of the film’s demon characters was removed from the film fully. Once done the film was scored by Joseph Bishara and was released in theaters as well as HBO Max on June 4, 2021 and did really well world wide for New Line Cinema bringing in $201,965,074.00 on a budget of $39 million. The film was released that year with other Horror Films like “Halloween Kills”, “Candyman”, “Forever Purge”, “Army Of The Dead”, “Godzilla vs. Kong”, “Quiet Place II” and “Don’t Breath 2” to name a few. And the film ranked # 22 out of 33 for my Matt Goes To The Movies 2021 Horror Movie rankings and was # 19 that year at the US Box Office.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It was a film that both Juliet and I was very much looking forward to seeing in theaters as we have been fans of the series from the start and we even enjoy all the spin off movies. We saw the film by renting out a Cinemark Theater and we invited some of our closest friends to watch it with us on the big screen. And when the film was over, we all enjoyed it but we all also agreed that this was missing the touch of James Wan and while it did a good job of showing another case of The Warrens, it also just seemed a bit off and not as spooky as the first two films in the main series as the stakes did not seem as high and the main spirit and villain just was not as powerful or iconic as others they have faced before. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson I do have to say are fantastic once more as Ed and Lorraine Warren and without them in these Conjuring films I feel that the series just would not work. So while this one was not the best in the series, watching them work adds to the enjoyment of the film. And even after all this time and watching the film again once on home media I still found the film good but lacking and I truly do think that it all falls onto Isla The Occultist as she just seems to lack motivation, any kind of backstory and is just not as scary nor threatening as any of the other villains from this cinematic universe. I should also say that some moments of the film do pack a scare and the film does play at your heartstrings as Ed Warren suffers a massive heart attack and there is a fear of him passing. And with this film not getting a very mixed response from critics and fans I am hoping that New Line Cinema will pull out all the stops when they do part four and make it a truly scary viewing experience, as I would love to see the next film be about Bill Ramsey, a man who was possessed by a wolf-spirit that made him act like a werewolf! And while it was my least favorite of the films, I am not saying that you should not watch it as the film is a enjoyable watch and you should check it out if you like the other films in the series or just like films about possessions and demons.

Conjuring Devil Made Me Do It 8

So as you can see, the third film in The Conjuring film series was a hit at the box office even after being released during the pandemic as well as also streaming at the same time on HBO Max and would be the one that finally got the films to get a comic mini series. And with that I would like to say a big thanks for Game Swap Kettering for having these comics in stock and making this update possible. I would also like to remind you all that I grade these comics on a star scale of 1 to 4 and am looking for how well the comics stay to the source material, their entertainment value and their art and story. So with that, let’s dive in and take a look at The Conjuring: The Lover series that is about Isla The Occultist.

The Conjuring The Lover Comic 1

The Conjuring: The Lover  # 1  ***
Released in 2021    Cover Price $3.99     DC Comics      # 1 of 5

It’s 1981 and Jessica wants to drop out of college as she is back from break to start her classes again but her mother is not happy about it as she wants her daughter to be something big in life, and when her mother meets Kyle one of Jessica’s classmates she tries to tell her to also look for a boyfriend! Once back at school Jessica feels lonely and annoyed by everything around her as her grades are low, her roommate brings her boyfriend home and Kyle has a crush on her…and worse of all it is that unknown to her Isla has places a curse on her. And it’s clear that something is watching her and following her as Jessica is missing home and her friend Katie. As Katie drifts off to sleep above her bed something evil is watching over her.

This is an interesting story this far and is about a young college girl who hates being away from home as well as her best friend Katie who she clearly likes more than just a friend. And while Jessica is battling her own depression something wicked is following her around looking for the right moment to attach it’s self to her and cause her harm. Jessica is a young woman who’s depression is causing her to have bad grades as well as not make friend easy as she seems to always be in a slump and want to stay away from her fellow classmates. Her mother is a little rough on her but you can tell it’s all out of love, as she just wants so much more for her daughter. Kyle seems like a good guy who just wants to get to know Jessica as it’s clear he has a crush on her and would like to be her boyfriend as her roommate Tammy as well seems like a nice person just a little carless. Isla The Occultist is around and has placed a curse on Jessica and to do so she has even killed a goat in order to please the dark spirit that is now hunting the young collage girl. So far this main story is a little spooky and is building up the suspense of what is going to happen to Jessica and the people around her. The issue also has a backup story that is based around an item from the Warrens Artifact Room with one being about The Ferryman and his coin, a short and pretty creepy little tale that has a man looking for the coin he stole off a dead body when he was a kid and now The Ferryman has followed him around and killed everyone he loves until he gets it back. So far so good as I have found myself enjoying this first issue and wanting to see what is next for Jessica! The cover for this issue is pretty cool and showcases Isla and the interior art for the main story is done by Garry Brown and is pretty cool and has a classic feel to it but also has that modern creepy look that much of the newer indie horror comics have. And with that I am jumping into issue two and to see how this story is going to unfold.

The Conjuring The Lover Comic 2

The Conjuring: The Lover  # 2  ***
Released in 2021     Cover Price $3.99     DC Comics     # 2 of 5

Jessica is in the shower and is hearing voices and even seeing things as she thinks that she gets burnt by the hot water that of course is not that hot, and this causes fellow female classmates to think she is weird. Jessica ends up calling Katie who is back home working two jobs and who makes Jessica promise to go to the next party she is invited to, and it just so happens that Kyle asks her to one and she goes and she tries to have fun but the demon voice in her head keeps saying very mean and nasty things to her. Kyle kisses Jessica at the party and this makes her panic and she walks home alone in the snow to find her roommate home as well, and as the two head off to bed the demon voice will not leave her alone and taunts her to try and kill him as now she is seeing it’s shadow and red glowing eyes and this drives her to grab a pair of scissors off the nightstand to protect her self and unknown to Jessica the person she is about to stab is not the demon but Tammy her sleeping roommate!

This is another very interesting issue as we follow Jessica who is now being plagued by a demon that is allowing her to see it in shadows and is as well talking to her in her thoughts and is even driving her to see things that are not there! The Demon is super mean spirited and is playing on all of Jessica’s fears and inner demons and wants to break her down and feel as if she is alone and no one loves her…this of course is un-true but to a depressed young woman dealing with her sexuality this is really beating her down. Jessica is a likable character as she is odd but is a good person who is quit and it’s clear that she really just wants to be home with Katie and not being hounded by the pressures of school and making new friends. And you have to feel for poor Tammy at this point as she might just get stabbed with scissors while she sleeps in Jessica don’t break the illusion that the demon is making her see. And imagine if Tammy wakes up before Jessica can break the hold or even stab her, as this will make everyone at the college think Jessica is psycho! Isla is truly evil as she is making this young woman’s life even more complicated and is leading her to a patch of murder, death and damnation. This issue as well has a cool backup story form the Warren’s Artifacts this time about The Bloody Bride and her cursed wedding dress. The cover for this issue is pretty cool and haunting and the main interior artwork is once more done by Garry Brown and is great stuff as he is capturing the slow brooding mood that has made the film series special over the years. Over all another solid issue and it has done its job as I am hooked on seeing were this story goes.

The Conjuring The Lover Comic 3

The Conjuring: The Lover  # 3  ***
Released in 2021     Cover Price $3.99    DC Comics    # 3 of 5

Jessica is in the dean’s office with Tammy who woke up to find her roommate over her with a pair of scissors, and this causes Tammy to move out and for Jessica to be all alone in the room…and while trying to eat lunch at the school cafeteria the demon once more makes her see things and act out making even more of her classmates think she is crazy or on drugs. Jessica tries to call Katie who is not home and she finds herself at the library were she meets Isla who is working their and takes her to the basement to find books on the occult as Jessica thinks she is possessed and under faking caring Isla wants to help, but soon she shows her true attentions and this causes Jessica to freak out and rush to her dorm to call her mother to come pick her up…but her mother refuses thinking her daughter is just stressed and hangs up on her. Jessica sits alone in her room for days even thinking bugs are crawling on her and her only glimmer of hope is when Kyle stops by her room and takes her out to eat. On the way back to her dorm Kyle tells Jessica how much he likes her and Jessica starts to come out to him, but she has a vision and Kyle becomes Isla with a knife and Jessica shoves her into the street but in reality she has just shoved Kyle in front of a bus.

This third issue the demon and Isla have turned up the torture factor on Jessica and are more and more playing with her mind making her not only hear more and more negative things but are really starting to make her see things that are not there as well as see those around her as demonic enemies. Jessica is loosing her mind as well as grip on reality as she is not eating, not attending classes and is acting out in harmful ways to her friends causing her roommate to leave and at the end of this issue leaving us on a cliffhanger of pushing Kyle in front of a bus. It also appears that Katie is not around for her as much as Jessica would like as her friend is holding down two jobs and having a life of her own back in their home town, and it also shows that Jessica’s mom is not their for her daughter as well as she hangs up on her when she is begging to come home. Kyle is a good guy who clearly cares for Jessica as he is the one who checks on her and makes sure she has food in her belly and know that some one cares about her. It will be interesting to see if he is killed or hurt by the bus and how he will react if he survives this attempted murder that was by accident. The demon as well is allowing Jessica to see more of it and Isla is now being apart of this torture as she has allowed herself to be seen and is enjoying playing with this young girls mind. The backup story this time around is about the Accordion Monkey that is found in the Warrens artifacts. The cover is nice and spooky as it shows that cursed Accordion Monkey and the main interior art is still great and done by Garry Brown again who I must say draws a cool looking demon. Yet another solid issue and a nice cliffhanger ending, so with that let’s head to issue four and see what Isla and the demon have planned for Jessica.

The Conjuring The Lover Comic 4

The Conjuring: The Lover  # 4  ***
Released in 2021    Cover Price $3.99    DC Comics    # 4 of 5

Kyle is able to get out of the way of the bus and is very upset and goes off on Jessica calling her a psycho and to stay away from him, and this incident leads to the dean to kick Jessica out of collage and forces her to move back home with her parents. While Jessica’s dad is caring her mother is ashamed of her and thinks she got kicked out on purpose. But even while home the demon speaks to her and shows up when she is alone in her room causing her to yell out and her father to come to her side. Jessica has a talk with her father who tells her that he knows what she is going through and that she needs to call Katie as she is the one that will truly understand. Jessica calls Katie to tell her she has returned home and the two make plans to meet up that night in the woods, and once together they share a kiss…but Katie soon turns into Isla and Jessica fights back and stabs her attacker that sadly turns out to be her lover Katie as the illusions have tricked her again and caused her to kill the one person she cared the most about.

Poor Jessica just can not catch a break as she has been accused by two students of trying to kill them, gets kicked out of school, has a mother who thinks she is just looking for attention and worse has a demon and an Occultist trying to ruin her life and drive her into madness. And Jessica has not true support besides her father and Katie and the demon makes sure that Katie is taken out of her life for good. Jessica clearly has no hope and no one to help her break this curse and the only route she has right now is damnation and that’s sad as all she wanted was happiness with someone she loved. Katie is a good friend as well as had the same feelings for Jessica, but is just used in this sick game of Isla as a pawn to be murdered very violently with a big knife. The demon and Isla have now pushed Jessica to the point of no return and it’s clear that they have won her soul as well as have had he take a life for their own entertainment. Her father is a good man who loves his daughter and will do what he can to protect her as well as be there for her, and understands that she is having a hard to of coming to grips about her love for another woman. Her mother who I at first thought was acting mean as a way of tough love is just truly a bad person who cares more about her self than her daughter’s mental and physical health. This issue is the bloodiest so far as Jessica stabs Katie to death in the woods and the attack is pretty brutal for a main stream DC Comic release. The backup story for this issue is The Sleeping Song and the music box that is found in the Warrens Artifacts. The cover for this issue is great and captures that Conjuring mood and feel, and you know what I am going to say about the art done by Gary Brown being good so I will skip the broken record for you. Another great issue and this one leads us to the final issue in the series and one that we all know how it will end if you seen the third Conjuring film, so with that let’s take a look at issue five.

The Conjuring The Lover Comic 5

The Conjuring: The Lover  # 5  ***
Released in 2021     Cover Price $3.99     DC Comics     # 5 of 5

Jessica is in shock as she stands over the dead body of her lover Katie, but to her horror the body starts to move as the demon has taken control of it and it chases Jessica through the woods to a cliff that is above raging water below. The demon Katie tries to push for Jessica to admit to herself that she hated being in love with Katie and that she all along wanted Katie to die so that she could close that chapter of her life and be alone…Jessica stands up to the demon and tells of the first time she and Katie meet and how the each had feelings for each other but were both to scared to make the first move. The demon keeps pushing Jessica to admit she hates herself and that she hated that she loved Katie and finally the demons words break her down and Jessica jumps to her death to the water below. In the cliff the demon Katie morphs into Isla who thanks Jessica for committing suicide and heads back to her alter and places another curse this time on a young child as our comic tale ends.

I have to say this first I really enjoyed this Conjuring comic book mini series and to be honest I think I even like it better than the third film it’s a prelude to! As for those of you who don’t know the tragic case of Jessica and Katie is mentioned in the film and this murder suicide plays a big part in the film, and while we only hear and briefly see the events in the film this comic book flushes it out and gives a backstory to the characters. You really do have to feel for Jessica as she is tormented and driven into a deeper depression throughout this series, as by the end of this comic you find that she hates herself and had no one to truly come to about it. While she loved Katie she also hated Katie as being homosexual in the early 80’s was more taboo and people would judge and hate you for it. And Jessica who already was an odd person who had a terrible mother already had that pressure of being not a letdown in life. While you read Jessica’s story here you are cheering for her to break the curse but in the back of your mind you know its not going to end well. Isla The Occultist picked Jessica because she was a lover, a lover who had deep feelings but was very easy to corrupt and trick into killing the one she cared for as well as talked into ending her own life. Isla truly used some very mean spirited mind games and with the help of the demon they were able to ruin that young woman’s life in no time and also was able to complete a part of a packed that had made. It’s also kind of telling just how much joy it seemed Isla was getting from doing this and it makes you even more sick when she thanks the young woman at the end for jumping…she is truly evil and selfish. The back up story for this issue is The Chalice, another artifact found in the Warrens collection of haunted things, and these bonus stories were also a very nice touch as they added scares to your reading experience. The cover for this issue is very dark and brooding and has Jessica running through the woods toward her fate. The main interior artwork by Garry Brown really is good stuff and fitting as I find that his style was a good choice for showing demonic spirits as well as a person’s mental breakdown from being cursed. I feel that this five issue mini series really did do The Conjuring film series justice and I hope that DC Comics decides to make more mini series in this universe as they did a great job here. Checkout the artwork below to see they style that Garry Brown used in this series.

The Conjuring Universe really does lend itself to being made into comic books as I would love to see DC Comics not only continue this series but also do comics based on the spin-offs like The Nun, Annabelle and even the Crooked Man as all of them could truly make for some spooky reads, as I am not going to lie I would really love to see a very dark and spooky comic mini series based around The Nun. And again I think DC Comics for their horror comics should dig deep into what they own as many of their films would make for great comics in these modern times. I also would like to share that in The Conjuring: Devil Made Me Do It film actress Ingrid Bisu plays Jessica and Andrea Andrade played Katie. But as you can see, our update has come to an end and before we part ways here I would like to let you know that the next update will take us to the Rotten Ink Arena as we take a look at that Iconic Horror Themed Wrestler Vampiro! So until next time, read a Horror Comic or three, watch a Horror Film or two and as always support your local Horror Host. See you next update as we take a look at one of my favorite Luchadors who is a perfect fit to cover this Halloween season.

Horror Host Icon: Jeepers

Welcome back to Rotten Ink. Have you ever sat and wondered what other Horror Hosts have graced the airwaves of California besides Vampira? Well I am here to tell you that state has had a great amount of hosts who all brought their own style and flare to late night moving hosting, and one of the best and earliest to follow in her footsteps was Jeepers, who was the host of Jeepers Creepers Theatre that haunted the airwaves in the 1960’s. Jeepers also had a slew of hosts that not only followed him in becoming the host of Jeepers Creepers Theatre but also inspired others for generations to come in becoming a horror host themselves. It’s with great honor this Halloween season that I bring to you Horror Host Icon Jeepers! So sit back and get ready to not only get scared but also have a few laughs.

Jeepers 1Jeepers 2Jeepers 3

Jeepers is a strange ghoul who has a pale face, wears a top hat and cape and would wander around his dark set and host spooky movies all the while having a good silly sinister sense of humor and would have a very memorable laugh that would fill the air. He claimed that he worked in Hollywood and on horror films and was connected, well that was before he was a Ghoul! Jeepers would also always play up on how famous he was and how people loved his work in film and on the show. He was the original host for Jeepers Creepers Theatre and was the most well loved one as viewers just could not get enough of him! Jeepers would also became a hit on radio when he would team up with musician Frank Zappa in 1963 to release a 45 that had two strange and fun songs called “Dear Jeepers” and “Letter From Jeepers,” and they would be popular on the radio stations around his market in Los Angeles. While his time as the host of Jeepers Creepers Theatre was short lived, his impact and connection with the fans was very strong, and this made him a true icon of the art of Horror Hosting and is one that is still remembered to this day for those who grew up watching him. Jeepers was played by Bob Guy, who was a local actor and personality who sadly passed away on September 10, 1984 at the age of 64.

Jeepers 4Jeepers 5Jeepers 6

Jeepers Creepers Theatre started in 1962 and aired on KCOP-TV, Channel 13 out of Los Angeles and was a super popular show that aired at 10pm and showed the Shock Packages of classic Universal Monster films. The show was a hit from the start, and viewers loved seeing the classic monster movies on TV. It became a popular topic at schools for kids who stayed up late to watch the antics of Jeepers as well as the horrors of the film. The show would lose its original Host Jeepers in 1963 and others would take over the show including Ghoulita who started and ended in 1963, Jeepers’ Keeper from 1963-1965 and The Creeper the final host who lasted from 1965-1966. So Jeepers Creepers Theatre would last for a total of around four years and remained a very popular show on TV up to its final episode. Even once off the air the show’s legacy remained as even to this day for people who grew up watching it and the new fans who discovered it thanks to the internet chat about its legacy and impact on the pop culture in the state of California and beyond. Sadly, much like all the other hosts from the 60’s and even 70’s many of the shows were shot live or the master tapes tapped over to save money as the tapes were way to expensive, and this make most of the shows lost to time.

Jeepers 7Jeepers 8Jeepers 9

On September 10, 2022 at HorrorHound Weekend, the legendary Jeepers made his way into the Horror Host Hall Of Fame! This classic host was inducted by Halloween Jack and was a Legacy Host to be inducted in that year. It was very cool to see Jeepers get the respect he deserves, and it was also cool to hear people laugh and chuckle at the clip shown of him doing what he did best. Halloween Jack did a great job of inducting him in. Jeepers going in has been long overdue and I was glad to see him get this honor. Jeepers was joined in the Class Of 2022 by names like Scarewolf, Sinister Minister, Spooky Spectre and the cast of Midnight Movies to name a few.

Jeepers 10

As you can see, Jeepers is a true legend of Horror Hosting and one of the biggest hosts from California and his legacy still lives strong to this day and his impact can still be felt in the state. We are now at the point of this Horror Host Icon update that we take a look at the episodes I have, and lucky for the world some footage of Jeepers has survived and way back when a fan made a reproduction of the show and that is what we will be taking a look at here, just seeing this footage is amazing and is a great way to showcase his talents. There are no star ratings for these Horror Host shows. I will be writing about what the host does in the episode and the film’s plot will be taken from our friends at IMDB. So with that, let’s see what Jeepers is up to and bask in this classic hosts glory.

Jeepers Creepers The Mummy Curse DVD

Jeepers Creepers Theatre: Mummy’s Curse

Host: Jeepers has gotten himself some tanna leaves in order to get himself a Mummy, and he places them into some sort of liquid and says the magic words. After a few moments Jeepers thinks the leaves have failed and takes us to the movie as a Mummy is creeping up behind him. We next join Jeepers who is unaware of The Mummy behind him and he is very down thinking he failed, but when he turns around he sees The Mummy who is coming every closer and Jeepers lets out a very nervous laugh before we are back to the film. We next join Jeepers as he his being choked by The Mummy who lets him go for a moment in order to go to a commercial break, once back from the commercials Jeepers shows The Mummy his weird family members that consist of a boars head, a white rat and a rubber snake before the monster starts choking him again as we go back to the movie. Jeepers next is making The Mummy some tanna leaf tea and then reads the Mummy’s fortune in the tanna leaves before being choked again after making a joke about a museum…and then back to the movie. Next Jeepers reads a fan letter that he got from a fan about loving the show before going into the final part of the nights film. In the end Jeepers puts The Mummy into a coffin for some sleep and then tells the viewers you can not get a Mummy using tanna leaves, but The Mummy shows back up with a noose and attacks Jeepers as the end credits roll.

Movie: An irrigation project in the rural bayous of Louisiana unearths living mummy Kharis, who was buried in quicksand twenty-five years earlier.

Note From Matt: This is a fan reproduction and takes the only known footage of the show to make this episode for the fans.

Horror Hosts like Jeepers are very important to local culture and help inspire creative minds in the field of Horror Media, and it’s a shame that so many markets at this time do not have a local made Horror Host on the airwaves and that is why it’s important to support your local Public Access stations as they allow a outlet for many local hosted programs. And of course so do websites and streaming stations like YouTube, The Monster Channel, The Vortexx and Shudder all who deliver Horror Hosts to the masses. While Jeepers’ time on TV was short, his impact on Horror Hosting is long lasting. But I think that it is time to wrap up this Horror Host Icon update as we have more scary updates to come as we countdown to Halloween 2025 and our next update will be a “From Horror Movie To Horror Comic” that will be about The Conjuring 3 and the DC Comic mini series based around it. So until next tim,e read a Horror Comic or three, watch a Horror Film or two and as always support your local Horror Host! See you next update as we explore the world of The Conjuring 3.

From Horror Movie To Horror Comic: Little Shop Of Horrors (1986)

Welcome back to Rotten Ink. Our countdown to Halloween 2025 continues! Horror films come in all types of sub-genres, and one that is often over looked and not talked about is the horror musical. One of the best hands down for me was the 1986 film “Little Shop Of Horrors” that truly set the bar for all those that followed. And of course this film was base off the Off-Broadway musical that was based off the Roger Corman film from 1960! And as you noticed, this is another PG-13 film and ends our updates for September. And with that I think it’s time that we start this long overdue “From Horror Movie To Horror Comic” update that is all about that mean green mother from outer space named Audrey II, and the Little Shop Of Horrors he’s hiding out in.

Little Shop Of Horrors 1986 1

So let’s start off by taking a look at the killer plant from this film named Audrey II and it’s ways of dealing death to mankind. Audrey II is an alien from outer space. When it first lands on our planet during a total eclipse of the sun, it is very small in size, but grows in size when it gets fresh blood and human meat to eat. The more blood it eats, the bigger it can grow and it can grow to be Kaiju size as well as can sprout more of its kind. Audrey II when small is cute and can draw people into its trap, but as it grows the more frightful it looks and can truly shock the weak. Audrey II as well has a mind of its own and is super smart and can use it to plot out evil plans, it can also talk and sing and can uses its words to get one simple minded florist to do its bidding of bringing him blood and people to eat with the promise of fame and fortune. Audrey II has razor sharp teeth that can rip apart flesh, vines that can grab and pull plus grow smaller heads with teeth and a mouth big enough to eat a person in one or two chomps. Audrey II also has a very mean temper and a wicked attitude and has goals of taking over our planet and does not care how many humans it has to eat to complete this goal. But while Audrey II is a big green mother from outer space that is bad, it can be hurt and even killed as it needs blood to live and without it will shrivel up and die, you can also crush it, burn it and possible chop it up into little pieces but that is only before it grows to Kaiju size. The main way to destroy Audrey II is use high voltage electricity, as this will cause the alien plant to explode, and end its reign of terror. Audrey II is a truly dangerous alien plant from outer space and if not put in check his species could easily take over the planet.

Now that we see just how dangerous that Audrey II is and just how easily it could take over the world and make every human dinner, I think we should take a few moments and talk about the film its from and that of course is the 1986 Musical Horror Film Little Shop Of Horrors that was a remake of a cheesy 1960 fright film. And I would like to remind you that I will be taking the film’s plot from our friends at IMDB and then I will write about the film’s production and then my thoughts on the film. So with that, let’s avoid becoming plant food and head to this little shop of terrors.

Little Shop Of Horrors (1986)

“A nerdy florist finds his chance for success and romance with the help of a giant man-eating plant who demands to be fed.”

David Geffen was a music executive that was producing a off-Broadway musical show based on the 1960 Roger Corman film Little Shop Of Horrors and he had the want to turn the stage show into a big production musical film to release in theaters and even at one point in time had big names like Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and John Landis attached to the film, and this was causing it to have a big buzz around it. But the film stalled for a while due to Charles B. Griffith, the original film’s script writer and voice of Audrey Jr. tried to sue Geffen in a failed attempt. And once the lawsuit ended, Frank Oz was hired to be the director and he even helped writer Howard Ashman with the script to bring the Broadway show to the big screen and this meant adding and subtracting some of the songs to make it have that big theater event film feel. When casting the film, Rick Moranis was hired to play Seymour Krelborn with Levi Stubbs from the musical group The Four Tops being the voice of Audrey II. Other names attached to the film in supporting as well as cameo roles include Steve Martin, Vincent Gardenia, Jim Belushi, John Candy, Bill Murray, Christopher Guest, Vincent Wong and the trio of Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold and Michelle Weeks acted as the singing chorus who act as the stories guides. When it came to casting Audrey, it was given to Ellen Greene who had played the part for the stage, but the roll was also offered to pop singer Cyndi Lauper and even rumored to Barbra Streisand. The film’s main villain Audrey II took many puppeteers to control and filming would take place in England at the 007 Stage. The film was given a $25million budget with Warner Brothers stepping in to distribute the film in theaters and home media. The film’s ending had to be re-shot after the test screens did not like the original downbeat ending of Audrey II growing to giant size and taking over the Earth as Seymour Krelborn failed in the final fight and was killed. The film would be released on December 19, 1986 and would bring in $39 million and was well loved by fans as well as critics and would become an even bigger hit for Warner Brothers when it was released on video. The film was released along side such other Horror Films as Class Of Nuke’Em High, Demons 2, Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, The Hitcher, Maximum Overdrive, Night Of The Creeps, Psycho III, Rawhead Rex and Trick Or Treat to name a few.

Little Shop Of Horrors is a film that was a big part of my childhood as it was one I watched all the time and I knew almost all the songs by heart as they are just so damn catchy. I can remember seeing the film’s TV spots for coming to the theaters and also remember the poster being printed in the newspaper and really wanted to go to the theater to see it. My parents did not take me but to hold me over till it came out on home media, they did buy me the trading cards and candy based around the film. And when I finally did get to see the film, I was a fan as the acting, songs, special effects and monster were all fantastic and helped draw me in as a viewer. The film’s star Rick Moranis was a big star of the 1980’s and 1990’s as most people know him for his roles like Bob McKenzie from Strange Brew (1983), Louis Tully from Ghostbusters (1984), Dark Helmet in Spaceballs (1987), Wayne Szalinski from Honey I Shrunk The Kids (1989), Barney Rubble from The Flintsones (1994) and the voice of Rutt in the Brother Bear franchise to name a very few. As you can see, Rick Moranis was a big star for kids of that time and was one of the big draws for the young Monster Kids of 1986 to want to see Little Shop Of Horrors. The puppet used for Audrey II is amazing and the puppeteers who controlled it are masters of their craft as he really does seem like a living thing! I should also note that Levi Stubbs, the voice actor and singer for Audrey II is known of course for being the lead vocalist for the group Four Tops but I also should point out that he was the voice for Mother Brain for the cartoon “Captain N: The Game Master” that ran from 1989-1991. And this is the movie that made me have a crush on Tisha Campbell that would continue when she was also on the sitcom Martin were she played Gina, and in fact she is still a very beautiful woman to this day and one talented actress. If you have not seen this film, I really thank that you should not only for the great songs, a top-notch lead cast, amazing special effects but also for all the cameos from some of the top comedians going at that time. And really this is one of my favorite films and is one I have watched so many times over the years and of course own on home media. And over the years the film has been slated for a remake that never gets out of the talking stage, and I for one say if they cast it they should have Lady Gaga play Audrey, Rami Malek as Seymour, Jared Leto as Orin Scrivello DDS, John Leguizamo as Mr. Mushnik, Poppy, Mya and Charli XCX as the Chore Ladies and lastly Bruno Mars as Audrey II…just saying.

Little Shop Of Horrors 1986 8

Little Shop Of Horrors was slated to be a big film and with that when released lots of cool merchandise was made to promote it before, during and after the film’s release as cool items are still being made based around it to this day. When the film first came out, you could buy the soundtrack on CD or cassette, trading cards from Topps, DC Comic adaptation, a paperback adaptation, posters and a very cool candy dispenser of Audrey II, and I had many of these things with my favorite being the Audrey II candy holder. After the release and through the decades the film has also gotten shirts, art prints, buttons, cups, bed covering, Funko Pops and so much more as this film’s popularity is still very strong and it has a huge cult following. So if you are a fan of Little Shop Of Horrors, there are lots of cool things for you to collect and add to your collection.

So as you can see, Audrey II is a very dangerous plant from another planet and the film it’s from Little Shop Of Horrors was an awesome film that spawned some great merchandise and was a big part of so many kids lives in the late 1980’s and also showed that Musicals and Horror can really mix! And I am really happy that DC Comics gave this film the comic book treatment as you readers know I always say that comics make great promo items for films, and I wish more companies would see this and make more in these modern times. I would also like to thank Mavericks Comics and Cards for having this comic in stock those many, many years ago to make this update possible. I would also like to remind you that I grade these comics on a star scale of 1 to 4 and am looking for how well the comics stay to the source material, its entertainment value and its art and story. So let’s head into Mushnik Florist and see what that strange and unusual plant in the window is all about.

Seymour lives and works at Mushnik Florist owned by the grumpy Mr. Mushnik who also employs Audrey who comes to work late this day and is sporting a black eye that he boyfriend gave her, and after Seymour trips and breaks some flower pots and its now 6pm and they have not seen a customer all day Mushnik threatens to close the shop down for good. But Seymour and Audrey have a plan and that is to put some strange plants in the widow to attract new customers and Seymour brings up a flytrap of sorts that he calls Audrey II and once in the window a customer comes in asking about it and Seymour tells the story of how he bought it after it mysteriously appeared at a sidewalk plant shop after a total eclipse of the sun. And Audrey II does its job as more customers keep coming in asking about it and before they leave they are buy flowers and plants causing the shop to make some money! But after the store closes and Audrey and Mr. Mushnik leaves for the night Seymour has to stay behind as Audrey II is sick and that is when he learns that the plant needs human blood to feed in order to grow. A week later Seymour and Audrey II are a guest on a local radio show in order to promote the shop, and at the shop Audrey and Mr. Mushnik listen as it’s clear that her boyfriend once more beat her up. Once back home Audrey thinks about a life she could have if only she would be dating Seymour. Days pass and Seymour is tried as he has to keep feeding Audrey II his blood, and while the shop is packed and the money is coming in Seymour just cannot build up the nerve to ask out Audrey. Meanwhile her boyfriend the motorcycle-driving dentist Orin Scrivello who torments his patients and huffs the nitrous oxide as he enjoys causing living things pain, and that night he heads to the shop to pick up Audrey for a date and Seymour witnesses how bad he treats her. That night Seymour sits next to Audrey II all sad about Audrey being treated bad when he learns that Audrey II can talk and needs fresh blood, and promises Seymour fame and the two decide that Orin will be the victim after they see him smack Audrey after their date. And when Seymour goes to the office of Orin Scrivello to kill him the dentist dies from an overdose of nitrous oxide gas and Seymour drags his body to the shop and chops it up to feed to Audrey II but unknown to Seymour his boss Mr. Mushnik witnesses him chopping up the body! The next day Audrey finds out her boyfriend is missing and she and Seymour bond as they both let their feeling for one another be known, but once Seymour gets back to the shop he is confronted by Mr. Mushnik who in turn is eaten alive by Audrey II. The days that follow lots of pressure falls on Seymour and he buckles under it all as in order to keep up the fame that means he needs to get more blood for the now massive planet, but when he finds out that Audrey would still love him even if he was broke he comes up with an idea to marry her that night and for them both to run away. Later Seymour heads to the butcher shop to get Audrey II some bloody meat, but while he is away Audrey II uses the phone to call Audrey into the shop with the idea of eating her…Seymour arrives just in time to save her and then knows what has to be done Audrey II must be destroyed. Seymour goes inside the shop and tries using a gun first and it does nothing but make Audrey II mad and he brings down the walls but this exposes an electrical wire that Seymour uses to zap and fry Audrey II killing the man eating plant. In the end Seymour and Audrey get married and but a little house together…but unknown to them another Audrey II is in their very flower garden.

The comic adaptation of the 1986 Musical Horror film Little Shop Of Horrors is a very fun read but it does lack something that makes it amazing and that is well the musical numbers as all the songs as well as many characters are missing from this comic and the changes are very noticeable. And for me the biggest missing element from this comic is the characters of Crystal, Chiffon and Ronette as they are not around to move the story forward nor are they even around to interact with the characters…they are just gone. But while this is just one of several changes the comic is still a fun read and captures the story of the film with out the musical numbers. The plot is this a man working and living on skid row has a crush on his co-worker and after finding a strange plant after a total eclipse of the sun his life turns hectic but also more positive as fame and money start coming his way, but he soon finds out that the plant is really an alien who eats blood and human meat and grows and has world conquest on its mind! When it comes to the hero of this comic you would have to give that role to Seymour who is the one in the end that stops the alien plant, but to be fair he is also the one who ended up given it the human blood and meat it needed to grow into the super dangerous creature all because of fame and wanting to try and get the attention of his crush. Audrey is a sweet woman who sadly has poor taste in men who abuse her, but her sweetness and caring nature is what helps Seymour stand up and finally defeat Audrey II who of course is the evil alien plant who was sent to Earth with the idea of taking over once he can get large enough as well as sprout offspring. Audrey II is very smart as well as manipulative as he can use his words in order to get Seymour to do what he wants him to do and that includes feeding him the dead body of Audrey’s boyfriend! And when Audrey II gets big enough and finds out that his hold over Seymour is weakened he decides to kill him and start his quest to take over the world! This film has some blood but nothing major and it of course has death as several characters find themselves plant food. The cover for this comic is pretty dang cool and has the main cast around a baby Audrey II with the interior art being done by Gene Colan being great stuff, but I also have to say that the characters sadly do not look like the actors who play them. This is a pretty great comic adaptation and while there is big changes the spooky and fun nature of the core of the film are here and make for a great read for fans of the film as well as Horror Comic readers in general. Checkout the artwork below to see the style Colan used in this comic, and I have to say make sure to grab yourself a copy of this comic for your collection.

The 1986 Horror Musical version of Little Shop Of Horrors was a very odd choice when you think about it to be turned into a comic book as the musical songs just could never be done well on the pages of a comic, but somehow DC Comics made it work here. And it’s a shame that DC did not do more comics based on Horror Films that their parent company Warner Brothers was making at the time like it would have been great to get comics based on such films as Deadly Friend, The Lost Boys, A Return To Salem’s Lot, It’s Alive III: Island Of The Alive to name a few from 1986-1987 from them and all would have made for some very cool and creepy comics. While our time at this little shop of horror has come to an end, we will be staying in the world of horror as our next update we will be taking a look at Horror Host Jeepers the host of Jeepers Creepers Theatre out of California. So until next time, read a horror comic or three, watch a horror film or two and as always support your local Horror Host. See you next update as we spend time with a true icon of Horror Hosting.
